As a novelist, I have been strongly influenced by Dr. Phelan's insights to narrative discourse, in particular his work on the use of rhetoric in manipulating the reader's character judgments. Although the book expounds on complex rhetorical issues, it is written in plain language; it doesn't hide behind an esoteric smokescreen. Great stuff!
