This is a nicely illustrated and informational book. It of course covers Groundhog day on Feb 2, but also covers information about the groundhog, or whistlepig as he is called in much of Pennsylvania.

Worst Groundhog Book Ever! I didn't read it first, I didn't think I needed to as it was intended for ages 6 and up. As my 9 year old was reading to me we found out it tells the whole truth of Groundhog Day! I wasn't expecting that. Here are a few quotes from the book..

"Phil is kept in a burrow under a fake tree stump."

"The Officials make it look as if Phil whispers to one of them whether or not he has seen his shadow. It's all pretend."

Yes, I know these are true facts but do they have to be told in a children's book? I must admit it has nice illustrations and some really great facts but it lost it's appeal to me after my 9 year old was reading and stopped to ask, "it's fake???"
