Exceptional set. Far more in depth than any other book but this takes nothing away from their value. With 869 pages subjects still had to be brief.One small and possibly insignificant example is page 728 . The Yuan Dynasty 1260-1368. The caption states Kublai Khan established Yen-ching (modern Peking) which is now Beijing as the new capital of China. My prior reading has the capital being moved in 1644 from Shenyang to Peking. Perhaps a few more words in the caption or body might have offered the progression. While not finding fault there are 129
pages which includes Wade-Giles to Pinyin, Pinyin to Wade-Giles, glossary of Chinese Characters, Bibliography in Chinese, In English, Index but no tonal markings used.
The disrespect of the seller is surprising. The brand new book was placed in an envelope with nothing around the cover. This allowed the dust jacket to be ruined and then there are four smudges on the blank page! From new to VG.
