If you own a 240 Volvo and even if you don't do much of the work on it yourself, this manual is a must have. Complete and clear with very few errors, this will tell you more about your 240 and how to fix it than anything you can buy for under $50. The factory books may well be better but this is relatively inexpensive and will pay for itself with the first moderate repair. Don't waste your money on Chilton's junk ... this is the repair manaual you will want if you own and love a 240 "Brick". It is the best 240 repair manual I have used in 25 years of Volvo ownership. I've used it for everyhting from simple repairs like brake pads to replacing an automatic transmission. I have saved literally tens of thousands of dollars fixing my Bricks using this great manual! Also make sure you check out the Brickboard.com online for great advice from the national Volvo loving community. With this manual and the Brickboard advice you can literally fix anything on your 240 Volvo.

This book is great - I have an 85 and a 93, and I learned much just sitting with it and reading. I will be much better prepared for whatever I need to do. It is well laid out, and the illustrations are very informative.

If you own a Volvo 240 - fast becoming a very collectible car that's affordable, for the most part, to maintain - then this is the book for you should have available at all times on your bookshelf or in your garage if you don't already.

I have owned about half a dozen 240's, and after a while of owning these cars you'll start to understand what every squeak, rattle, hum, and whir, and buzz is as you drive down the road. You develop an ear for impending doom, or some sort of small repair that can be done before forking over your hard earned wage money to the repair man. As you begin to understand your car you'll grow closer and understand more about it - similar to the bond between man and Volkswagen of the air-cooled variety a few decades ago. But to get to this point there are major milestones along the way, and the way to get yourself up to speed with a sense of urgency is to buy this rather valuable book and start reading it - even if you don't understand everything.

The Bentley manual for Volvo owners is the de-facto standard of maintenance reference material by which other publications are measured. The maintenance schedule is extremely important to understand - and trivial items such as the "flame trap" which only costs about a dollar can be the difference between your rear main seal blowing and having a rear main seal stay intact for 250,000 + miles. But you won't know these things until you spend a lot of time trolling Volvo forums or biting the proverbial bullet and purchasing this book. There are advantages to both internet resources and a physical book - but those need not be detailed.

Whether it's a greasy copy that you buy second-hand from an Amazon merchant, or a brand new copy with bright, white pages, this book will see much use.Read more ›

Lots of clear diagrams with full explanations as to how to troubleshoot a system.

However, the electrical diagrams are almost unreadable. It is as if they are a bad scan of someone else's diagrams. And there are very dark, fat grid lines that obscure important text or connections.

If you own a Volvo, this book is what you should own. The book is written easily so that the average Joe can understand but has enough information for the professional master mechanic. Was told this book is what the factory trained mechanics use. Print is easy to read, organized well and is hardback instead of paperback like most of the other manuals.

I am the original owner of a 1984 Volvo 240 series Turbo, manual transmission w/overdrive. I bought this manual to help me get this car into running order - I was medically restricted from driving for several years, and now, due to surgery I can drive again. This manual has been critical in helping me self-educate myself about the maintenance, large and small, for getting my car on the road again. In years past I would just take my car either to the dealership or a recommended Volvo mechanic and pay the "going rate." And being female, it usually meant paying more for the same services as male customers, sometimes as much as double. Now that I am retired, I decided to "shop around". This Bentley Manual has already saved me hundreds of dollars, and will continue to save me even more. Every specification is listed for each of the operating systems of the vehicle along with diagrams. With this information I have been able to do detailed research on the internet for more detailed diagrams for my particular model and to order parts directly from the manufacturers and/or importers of parts. The customer reps with the parts companies give me great service because I know what parts I need - "thank you" Bentley. As an example, when I replaced the brake system (rotors and pads) I saved over $300 by using this manual, and all the parts I ordered are OEM!!
Fortunately I have all the records for my car from the day I bought it, so I am able to compare what has been charged for parts and labor over the years. Even 10 years ago, some parts were charged at twice the rate that I am purchasing them now. Now I will be able to take the best care of my car and I loved learning the technical information that the Bentley Service Manual has put at my fingertips. Also, the condition of the Manual is "like new" and the Amazon price was more than covered in my very first parts purchase. I am a very happy customer!!!
