Format: Spiral-bound
This book fills in the gaps that are created with most basal "phonics" instruction. This makes the "generalizations" of spelling very clear, and will provide teachers with explantions for why words don't fit a pattern. Usually, our "exceptions" fit an entirely different spelling generalization. I have found this to be an invaluable resource for word study, and I have learned just as much as my students. FINALLY, I am able to explain "why" words do or don't follow a pattern.

Great for teaching spelling (which seems like a no-brainer, but some books are better than others). This lays out the spelling rules and gives good examples, and the progression makes sense. The accompanying workbook has a clean design, simply the spelling exercises without any distracting pictures or designs. I am glad I bought it.
