Most 7th Grade students read 'The Outsiders' as part of the curriculum, this dramatic adaption is a fun way to cover the same material and concepts.

I especially appreciated the clear directions, using simple classroom props. It was easy for my class to produce and direct the play themselves.

This play stays very close to the text of the novel and therefore becomes an excellent piece for high school groups, since most students read the novel in junior high.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is an exciting novel that children from grades 6 to 8 will especially enjoy; that was the age I read this book and I still remember the story now over 8 years later. This is because preteens will be interested in learning about gangs and the problems that are associated with them. It is a great story that teaches a good lesson. There are many interesting characters that have their own unique personalities.

The Outsiders is about the life of Ponyboy Curtis, who is a part of the gang called the Greasers. The Socs are the rivals of the Greasers. Ponyboy lives with his brothers and has no parents. What difficulties does Ponyboy face because he is a part of a gang?

I buy most of my children's English books here on Amazon. I bought the wrong one this time. He needed the novel and not the play adaptation. So, beware if you are looking for the novel. (I wish teachers would be more specific and give us the ISBN #) He was able to to start his annotation for class as he waited for the correct book to come in.

I read this over 20 years ago, and gave my copy to my grandson. They just don't make plays/books like this anymore. The dynamics of the time still hold true today. I think this is a great one to add to your library.
