The book gives a great reference for starting an independent paralegal business with examples of what should and should not be done in the business world.
There is much focus on California, but much of the information can be used in other eaaster and mid-western states for setting up a business.
I highly reccomend this book as a guide to help one build a success paralegal business.

As a [...] consumer, I have yet to buy a book from these publishers that wasn't worth the asking price. These books are that useful! As a practicing paralegal in the Golden State, I consider myself fairly industry savvy but still found information contained within that I didn't find elsewhere. I'm not comfortable with [...] having the monopoly on subjects of this nature because any time there is only 1 provider of any given thing, that provider tends to gouge consumers. That will change as competition develops. In the interrim, however, this book is a good resource. Highly recommended.

This books is awesome. I will be using it as a reference for doing paralegal work on my own. We are in 2013 and law firms are paying $8 to $10 bucks to many Paralegals it simply doesn't make any sense at all to work for those wages its sick. So this books has given me the confidence to go out on my own and be my only boss.

This book was written by a lawyer and it details mostly the dangers of operating a paralegal business by oneself without the protection of an overseeing lawyer. The author cites numerous examples of independent paralegals who engaged in such mediocre practices as typing up wills and then being arrested without being charged with any offense and refused jury trials and forced to pay hefty fines and to spend time in jail. Other than these cautionary tales, very little real advice is given on how to open a practice. After I read my copy, I immediately donated it to the nearby library to help warn other paralegals of the dangers of opening their own practices. It appears that the economy is swamped with lawyers with no work and so they are targeting paralegals to get rid of the competition. The bottom line of this book seems to be: don't practice independently unless you want to find out what prison food is like.

Being an independent paralegal, I wanted a book to help guide me and even though I would not suggest this book being the all in all it was very helpful. It has the appropriate warnings in it and does help with what can be and what should not be done. I would recommend it for anyone who has done what needs to be done for an education and work experience and desires to go out on their own.

I read this cover to cover in about a day and a half. It was well worth what I paid for it. It gives practical hints and tips on how to run a successful business as well as stories of paralegals that ventured forth. I highly recommend the book!

This is the book that can help anyone with the right paralegal education on how to make money, the legal way. I find it very informative and a lot of how to do's. It's a great book to have even if you want to fill out forms for yourself. This book should be in everyone's home.
