Jewish children are usually taught songs for the Jewish Sabbath, holidays, and festivals. Shirley Cohen Steinberg’s song, One Morning (The Frog Song), is a notable preschool Passover song. Using this song as a focal point, author and illustrator Ann D Koffsky created Frogs in the Bed: My Passover Seder Activity Book.

The first few pages vividly illustrate the words of this preschool song. Parents and teachers of young Jewish children can create additional interest by locating and counting the exuberant frogs that appear in a variety of poses.

The frog theme continues throughout the rest of the book. There are 15 pages of activities that highlight the traditional parts of a Passover Seder. A copy of The Frog Song and the melody are an added bonus. The first few pages reinforce basic concepts such as the meaning of the objects on the Seder plate, the drinking of 4 cups of wine/grape juice, and the tradition of reciting 4 questions.

Some of the pages appear to address a read aloud audience while early readers would be comfortable reading some pages. Magid and Miracles: A Passover Comic is a delightful 3-page comic that could be enjoyed by readers as well as nonreaders. Four pages instruct readers to make shapes out of matzah, to draw faces that reflect an emotion, to locate items that don’t belong in a picture, and to find the correct path on a simple maze.

The concluding pages provide directions and illustrations for two craft projects- Sparkling Elijah Cup and Jumping Froggie.

Parents who are looking for a short book that reinforces basic Passover ideas will be pleased with Frogs in the Bed. The book highlights key words and important aspects of the holiday while simultaneously providing a limited number of simple activities.

Okay, it's not a real word. But if you're a Bubby, a Grandma, a savta, an aunt, uncle, cousin or just a friend looking for a thoughtful gift to share with children around the seder, Frogs in the Bed is a wonderful pick.
The book starts out with a contagiously singable story / song (if you don't know it already, listen online with kids!), followed by activities for several sections of the seder (including the full Four Questions), and a fun 3-page comic in place of the regular story.
I like that the Hebrew names of the seder sections are included along with certain activities (Maggid, Motzi Matza, Marror, Tzafun). This is a nice touch, and a nod to lining up this kids' version with the full "grown-up" haggadah. However, only four "steps" out of the total fifteen are mentioned, which might frustrate kids who want to follow along in "their" book.
(I know this from past years' experience with kid haggadahs that don't include all the sections.)
As another reviewer mentioned, Frogs in the Bed isn't really long enough on its own to be either a full storybook or a full activity book. If you're looking for a volume that will teach your kids everything about Pesach, this isn't it. But if you want a fun way to introduce or supplement your family's / school's preparations for Pesach, it's a great bet and probably one you'll come back to year after year.
The art is easily the best thing about this book. More than lively, it's often hilarious (my son would probably spend all day on the page with Pharaoh brushing his teeth and watching the frogs diving into the toilet). While the activities aren't super-abundant, they're fun, original and well-drawn enough to hold kids' attention... and most importantly, get them excited about seder night.
