I found the strange characters, locations and bizarre occurrences presented within Davis' short stories difficult to "get into" at first. However, inevitably I found myself immersed in the stories and, like the force of gravity, I was unable to escape them. I can't wait for more short story weirdness from Davis.

What most do not know....this author comes from a hard working, self sacrificing, proud Italian and Irish immigrant family. They worked hard day and night for him to have his chance. Once he graduated, he blocked all contact with all of his family. No explanation. No reasoning. No logic. Just " I got what I could and now I don't know you" attitude. He writes of being a jeweler...that was my father, his uncle. He writes of a southern background....that was my husband. I believe he did a couple years in Missouri - not exactly the deep south? He had a white catholic middle class upbringing.....private schools and music lessons filled his youth. With an award winning poet as a father and an extremely talented and loving artist as his mother, how could he not excel? He is talented beyond your imagination and his as well.....I can only hope he lets the real Michael out in pen....I'm sure it will be astounding in the future, once he has matured and can fathom what it truly means to be an American from immigrant decent and from two such adoring, nurturing parents.

It is a complex and subtle collection of short stories that describe the soul of normal people in front of defies to their self image. It is a master piece.
