This is one of the best piano books I've ever bought. Easily worth three times the price. I'm particularly enjoying the Eddie Heywood transcriptions, but the Fats Waller, George Shearing, Dave Brubeck and others are great too. Definitely for the intermediate to advanced pianist.

I'm always wary of anything that calls itself the "World's Best" something or other. And what drives me bats about online songbook shopping is that so often the product info offered is either non-existent or too skimpy to give you much of a clue as to what you'd be buying. I've learned the hard way that arrangement books that don't mention arrangers' names usually contain mediocre (at best) arrangements. And that collections that include the word "jazz" in their titles or marketing often turn out to be just a batch of un-jazzed up standard sheet music. The other day I went through my collection and threw a foot-high stack of books that fit such descriptions onto the "donate to library book sale" pile. But not this one.

Except for offering an "inside look" that's available to Kindle customers only, which I find hugely annoying, none of the other above grousing applies to this book. This 20-year-old treasure trove totally lives up to its name in my opinion.

For starters, its arrangers are mostly names most jazz fans will recognize and admire. 31 of its 100 songs are George Shearing arrangements ("Over the Rainbow," "Don't Blame Me." "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing," "Killing Me Softly," etc). Following is a list of most of the other big-name pianist/arrangers in this book and a sampling of the song titles associated with them.

Art Tatum: "What Can I Say After I Say I'm Sorry," "Wabash Blues"
Duke Ellington: "Sophisticated Lady," "Mood Indigo," "Satin Doll"
Teddy Wilson: "Blue Moon," "Sweet & Lovely"
Fats Waller: "Margie," Who's Sorry Now," "Two Sleepy People"
Earl "Fatha" Hines: "Don't Get Around Much Anymore"
Eddie Haywood: "Stompin' at the Savoy," "Just You, Just Me"
Bob Zurke: "If I Had You.

I know this book wasn't marketed/advertised for intermediate-advanced pianists, but usually if I work long and hard enough at a song, I can play it. This stylings of this book encorporates too many 10th intervals to play comfortably. I get it every once in a while, but it was too many, too often, and too many songs.

Valuable Piano Book! It features great song selections from George Gershwin, George Shearing, Fats Waller, Dave Brubeck, etc. The arrangements are quite challenging to play. This book could be better if it has the transcription and Chords. Still, It's a great book and one of the best one I have.

A great collections of jazz piano pieces and arrangements. Some pieces are quite difficult and require practicing. A challenging book for pianist who would like to play some good arrangements. A strong classical background would be helpful.

You will find a lot of these songs are old classics, I think theres like only a handful of songs in here published after 1950, most of them are from the 30s and 40s. A lot of these songs were arranged by George Shearing who is a 91 year old British jazz pianist who had the honor of performing for three U.S. presidents, and we also get some older classic arrangements by Fats Waller and Art Tatum. I was impressed with how many rare songs are included in this like Jitterbug Waltz or Coming to Virginia. The way these songs are arranged, you won't be surprised that these came off the pens of the professionals, everything flows together so well, with the advanced bass lines and chords. This is not for beginners at all, these songs are even difficult for me and I am more intermediate. If you are a performer, this book would impress many people if played the way they were arranged, and the only problem I find is that lyrics are not included to most songs that have them. I can just look those up online though, so this book gives you great arrangements.
