In this book, Dr. Sorensen speaks candidly about her profession, charging that the problem is that even most therapists do not understand the inner experience of low self-esteem, do not take it seriously, and frequently misdiagnose or mistreat it. She strongly states that therapists have succumbed to the mandate of managed care and to a faulty diagnostic system that only perceive low self-esteem as a symptom of other disorders, rather than a disorder in--and of--itself. Finally, she talks about the many magazine articles and books that present LSE as a nagging but insignificant problem that could easily be rectified through superficial means, if only the person would try.
This book educates people about the seriousness of low self-esteem, empowers and provides hope to those who suffer from low self-esteem and who have previously been misdiagnosed or mistreated. Though they cannot recapture the time lost and money spent on therapy, this book will help LSE sufferers understand that, with the right guidance recovery is, indeed, possible. Suggestions are given as to how to find that help.
