Product Description

Cole calls this a self help book. It is meant to be used by Black people to improve their mental, physical, and spiritual existence on earth and beyond. He feels that there is no way Black people can pull themselves out of the miserable existence that many of us live in everyday without God. But wait, the conduit to God is broken and needs to be fixed. In his book he deals critically but intelligently and with sincere love in his heart for those affected by The Black Church, Ministers, The Bible, Christianity, and much more.

About the Author

Dr. Cole is a successful allergist in Memphis, TN. He graduated from the public school system in Memphis, received his B.A. in Chemistry from Lake Forest College in Illinois, and his medical degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. Cole grew up in the Baptist Church where he was there at least every Sunday through the age of eighteen. He makes no claim to be a theologian, or to have any special training in religion. He considers himself an average Black man who has studied a lot, observed a lot, and prayed a lot. He feels that his mission in life is to improve conditions for Black people all over the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!!, May 9, 2008
I am a Christian with an open mind who does not believe that "The Church" should have a free pass. Most things in life should be worked for and earned. Some would say that this book is ahead of it's time, but with the confusion, mis-information and deterioration of the Black community accelerating, the time for problem solving is now. I like the way he tackles many "untouchable" topics in an effort to find real, core solutions. I believe he is sincere and honest. His facts are historically correct, and his views forward thinking. In a sense, this is a masterpiece and has world changing potential!

5.0 out of 5 stars Courageous!, May 11, 2008
This book is apparently written by an ordinary person with extraordinary insight and courage. It has a simple brilliance to it. While I do not agree with some of his opinions, and his opinions are very strong on what I have been taught all my life as a Christian, I feel his sincerity and concern. The "average" Christian may have trouble with some of his main contention, but even so, the rest of the book is worth it. A much needed part of the discussion on improving the lives of Black people.

I had great hopes for Dr. Cole's book but upon receiving it I knew within the first chapter that I had made a mistake. In order to write a book about the Black Church, one should know what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ had in mind for the church to begin with. What Dr. M. L. King Jr. had in mind is totally irrelevant. Dr. Cole made it plain to me that he was analyzing the church's problems from a contemporary viewpoint and contemporary expectations. This approach simply won't work. God, and His expectations, is the same yesterday as He is today and will be tomorrow. Had Dr. Cole understood that to begin with his book might have had a chance but as it stands I consider his book a dangerous heresy written by a false prophet.
