"Pain Recovery for Families" is a misleading title for this book. Rather than discussing chronic pain and its effects on patients and families, the book focuses on a subset of patients who become addicted to opiate pain medications. While addiction is certainly a valid subject for a book about chronic pain, I was expecting a discussion of how families can negotiate the day to day tribulations of having a family with severe chronic pain.

It should also be noted that not all patients who take opiates for chronic pain are addicted. Patients who take opiates for chronic pain will certainly become dependent, and will experience withdrawal symptoms if the medication is suddenly withdrawn. That, however, is not the same as addiction.
