Great book! Highly recommend!!

My husband and I are creeping up on our 60's and growing concerned as there is a family history of this terrible disease on both sides. We both just finished our first read-through and are now reading it again as we both start the diet. Really great book overall; my husband and I are both floored by how much we have learned from reading it. We really appreciated that the authors are up front about the fact that this is not a miracle cure and that any diet takes effort- indicates that they're not just peddling something to make a buck. Also loved the fact that the things they recommend are based on science as opposed to somebody's opinion (there's so much garbage out there!). As a result, my husband and I are both super excited to begin our new brain-healthy lifestyle! Thanks!!

When I first started reading the book I was skeptical that a diet could help improve my memory. However, I was wiling to try it since there's not much else available for prevention or treatment. Luckily I am at an early stage but my family has been pushing me to do something. I didn't want to take any more medication so this seemed like a good thing to try.
You definitely have to put in some effort in the beginning but, after doing it for about a month, I am actually noticing some improvements in my memory! I can recall things a little easier, like names, which has been tough for me in recent years. My family has also started to mention that I seem more `with it', which makes me super happy. Thank you!!

Our uncle was diagnosed with early Alzheimer's two years ago and has been following the treatment plan we read in Dr. Issacson's last book (which included several diet changes). My mom sent us both a copy of the new Alzheimer Diet book for Christmas and I am just amazed about how much new research there has been to help treat memory loss, as well as protect against it. I learned so much new and vital information and have been making, as they say, "brain-healthier" food choices since finishing the book. Dr. Issacsons last book focused more on treatment and prevention using medications, vitamins, supplements (and other major lifestyle changes and activities) but this new book focuses more on the most cutting edge science behind diet choices, in an easy to understand form. The 9-week diet plan listed in the book also goes into great detail about the best foods to eat, worst foods to avoid, and gives examples of food choices and menu options which have been quite helpful for me and my family.

I am a registered dietician and certified nutritionist working on an assisted-living facility with many Alzheimer's patients. With over 10 years experience with the population. I honestly didn't expect to learn a lot from this book but wow was I wrong. Not only did I learn a ton but I lent my copy to our lead physician who said he's even learning a lot! I'm really impressed and highly recommend this book to anyone caring for individuals with Alzheimer's.

When my former father-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, it suddenly became very important to me to learn as much as I could about using nutrition to combat this disease--for my children's sake if not my own. This book is filled with just what I was looking for: scientific facts instead of hyperbole, recipes for a variety of appealing and nutritious foods, and a doable plan for implementing all the healthy food and lifestyle changes.

My favorite chapters discuss the costs of eating food that isn't good for our brains and the benefits of vitamin supplementation, both factors that are stressed in other books about generally optimizing one's health. For an Alzheimer's patient or caregiver, the information is presented in a very user-friendly manner with plenty of bulleted points, definitions, and a great 9-week plan that encourages small weekly changes as a way to avoid a feeling of deprivation while healthier choices are adopted.

Choices we make to prevent and/or delay Alzheimer's disease are important whether or not we are at risk for the disease, and this book has a plethora of information that's valuable to anyone at any age.

Although only in my 30’s, both my parents are afflicted so I am frankly terrified. Totally love the book because it provides direction on what to eat and not eat and outlines a specific program but doesn't cram a rigid set of rules down your throat. The authors encourage you to try different techniques to determine which ones do and do not work for you.

Also, they focus on long-term changes that can be sustained throughout your life. This was vital for me since I want to make adjustments to my diet but still be able to enjoy eating. Totally agree with the authors that a vital component is “making one’s brain and belly happy at the same time.”

Overall, fantastic book. I’m also losing a little weight too. Bonus!!

My grandmother has a form of dementia and the information in this book was very helpful to me and my family in addressing some of the issues involved with her care. I would strongly recommend this book as mandatory reading for anyone needing information about how to treat and possibly prevent this horrible disease. The book says that AD starts in the brain 20 to 30 years before any signs of memory loss occur, so it has helped me to change my diet in a way that I think will benefit my health and the health of my family. It is also written in a very easy to understand manner, without including confusing medical words. I can't recommend this book enough!
