A beautiful book that started as a newspaper feature in France in the Twenties, news stories retold in only three lines, sort of a journalistic haiku. These stories have been dressed up with modern illustrations and layout to create a charming, ironic collection. My only complaint is that the fancy layout sometimes gets in the way of the story-telling. It is not always clear at first glance that you have moved from one story to the next, but once you get used to it, the book is a winner.
It's the kind of book that makes a great gift, unexpected, easy to get into, smart but not intimidating. Like all art worth the name, it opens your eyes and you'll start seeing three-line novels everywhere.
