Jacobs is gifted in storytelling along with horsemanship. This is not a step-by-step how to book, instead it presents problems and solutions via story, letting the reader decide how best to work with her horse. If you enjoy Mark Rashid's style of teaching through story, you will enjoy Ross and the ol' horsemen, Walt and Andy.

Format: Paperback
The two Walt and Amos books (Changing the Tide Old Men & Horses) are interesting and captivating stories with serious take-home messages about horsemanship--all are based on true events. Each chapter is an example of a concept, presented in the clear writing style of the author.
In contrast Ross Jacobs’ new yellow book (Essence of Good Horsemanship) is a more serious study and explanation of principles that he feels are fundamental to good horsemanship, and set out in a more structured way; it is a book that people can refer to repeatedly as they progress in their horsemanship--reference material and a resource that gives continuing support and guidance to people beyond the first reading.
Ross Jacobs does not present a formula for fixing your horse (or fixing yourself). But what he does do is to present stories and his interpretation of those events, couched in the words of his two Walt & Amos characters, stories which will make you think--think of alternatives to the manner of treating / training horses that are commonly used. You will find that the principles and methods that he attempts to convey are very different to the majority of other clinicians. You may not agree with Ross Jacobs (pretty unlikely but possible), but he will get you thinking. And if you try what he suggests you think about, you will be amazed that it actually works.
He also has a Face Book page called Good Horsemanship – Ross Jacobs which supports all three of his books, and adds to them.

Very interesting and well written book on horsemanship that I wish more horse owners would read and take to heart for their horses' sakes! Each chapter stands alone and deals with lessons he learned from real situations.

The stories consist of common problems, and give solutions that help the horse feel better about the situation. Cuts away all the jargon and brings the lessons home in common language. I highly recommend it to all horse enthusiasts.
