Even though I own a lot of canning and preserving books, I'm always on the lookout for another that is just a little different. This one fits the bill.

As a real plus, I questioned a recipe I found on their website and posted it on a canning and preserving forum that is very safety conscious. I got a lengthy response from one of the food editors from Canadian Living, saying that they have always followed safe-preserving guidelines from Bernardin (the Canadian equivalent of Ball who has published the Ball Blue Book - the bible of canning - for 125 years). I was very impressed by her personal, thoughtful response.

There are a lot of interesting recipes and some new twists on old favorites. A lot of the recipes are on their website, but I find myself just leafing through the book as it's easy to read and has some great recipes using some of the canned goods.

I wouldn't buy this one as your first canning/reference book (get the Ball Blue Book for roughly $10 or the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving for about the same price as this one).

If you're like me and need some new canning inspiration every now and then, this book is great and I highly recommend it.

The recipes are fantastic! It is filled with unusual and easy to do recipes! I absolutely love this book and would highly recommend it!
