I had read the three volumes earlier on my Kindle. This was a gift for my wife as I felt she would enjoy the series also. She is on the second book and is enjoying it. My feeling after reading the Trilogy was that this is one of Ken Follett's best efforts. The history was good and the characters well developed. The story line was engrossing. Well worth the time and money spent.

Not only are the books not signed but a true limited edition is numbered, 1 out 2500 or whatever the case. Even if the books had the signed label from the top of the box on the title page of each book, it would still be a paltry signed limited edition. Very disappointing although the design of the elaborate box holding the books is very nice. Interestingly enough, Mr. Follett does know how to produce a signed limited edition as evidenced by the signed limited edition of "Fall of Giants" issued in 2010 by MacMillan. He should have insisted that the completed set be published in the same manner. Also, in case you are interested, my set included a first printing of "Edge of Eternity" and fifth printings of the first two volumes.

Don't be filled into thinking you will get a "signed limited edition" collector's item here...what you get is a box set (albeit, a nice one) with a small, crookedly placed and poorly cut piece of paper glued to the top with what vaguely appears to be "Ken" scrawled across it. I have a signed 1st edition, 1st printing of Pillars of the Earth and this "signature" looks nothing like that. Also, don't expect to have any kind of limited edition certificate enclosed as there is nothing of the sort accompanying this.

I would be perfectly content with this purchase if it had been advertised as simply a trilogy box set. These books are fantastic and the box set is nice and includes a great map inside. However, the publishers embellished quite a bit in their advertising for a "signed limited edition."

On a side note, it doesn't even appear that whoever put this together cared too much for detail as the "signed" paper placard on top isn't centered and even has parts of another signature showing on the bottom (See my picture). I hope the publisher reads these reviews...But I doubt it.

I would give this zero stars if I could. It is advertised as signed, limited edition. The books are not signed. On top of the outside of the package, there is a sticker slapped on that has a felt checkmark that presumably someone somewhere thinks might pass as a signature of the author. I am very disappointed, as I had planned to give this as a gift to someone who would have appreciated a signed edition.

These are, however, wonderful books--I have read all three and really enjoyed them. I recommend the paperback or Kindle editions though.

I may have read all of Ken Follett's works. He is a great writer and does fantastic research. He knows how to hook the reader, keep him/her hooked, and end up wanting more even when the tale is done. I'm still not decided if this is his best work, or the "The Pillars of the Earth" and "World Without End" series (soon to be trilogy).

If you are a book collector then this set of books is not for you.

As pointed out from the other reviews there is no indication on the case or any of the books that support this product as being a limited edition. For to be considered a limited edition there should be an indication of the number assigned to the set followed by the total number of copies in the limited edition.

None of the books are signed. The only signature is on a label that has been attached to the top of the case. Although Ken Follett may have signed the label there appear to many variations of his signature.

I have four books that have four original Ken Follett signatures. The books are signed first editions of "Pillars of the Earth" and "World Without End" American & British versions of each book (see photo). The photo is for the British limited edition version of "World Without End" that I purchased from MacMillan Publishers. I personally witnessed Ken signing the American version of each book at one of his book signings. Since the American version of Pillars of the Earth had a card with his signature pasted in the book I had him resign it.

The second photo is the signature that appeared on the case for the set I received. The only part of the signature that matches the full signature is Ken's first name. One of the other reviewers included a photo from the set they received. Even though the picture is blurred it does not appear to be Ken's signature.

Barnes & Noble is also selling this set of books. Their in store price is approximately $200 while there on line price is around $130. I stopped by their store that is close to where I live and looked at the two sets they had in the store.Read more ›

This review is NOT for the books (which are very good read), but for this boxed edition.

I believe there are many Ken Follett's fans out there like I am who have owned the first two books of this trilogy buying them again as part of this boxed edition for the sake of getting signed copies. Reading the publisher's description, I thought at least one of the books will be signed by the author. However, Ken Follett's signature is only on a sticker attached to the top of the box. There is no signature on the books themselves. The box is also not very sturdy. Mine has a tear along the bottom edge due to the weight of the books.

For such an important work from this great author, the publisher should have described the edition more accurately !
