I have this book, and find it very useful. The Canon owner's manual tells you how to set the controls and settings on the camera, but a good third-party book like this one, also tells you WHY to use certain settings and WHICH ones to choose according to your situation. This explanation of the REASONS for things is what sets these books apart from the more basic owner's manuals.

I have now also bought David Busch's book for this camera. His books are the epitome of what third-party camera books should be.

I first bought David D. Busch's Canon Guide to DSLR. I started reading it and felt like I wasn't able to grasp what he was saying. I'm completely new to photography and needed someone to explain the basics first; ISO, exposure, etc. David's book used these terms without first explaining them. I found myself going back to the glossary (thank God he had one) to look up the meaning of words. If you aren't completely new to photography, this book might be good, it seem very in depth.

So I went on Amazon and bought this dummies book. I have never read a book by these writers so I didn't know what to expect. I was very pleased. The book reads like a textbook - which I want when I'm trying to learn something new! As soon as they use a photography related word, they explain it briefly, and tell you where you can find more information about it in the book (if you wanted to skip to that topic). The only thing I wish it had (which several text books these days do) is the terms called out in the sidebar with a definition - incase you need to remember what a term means again quickly. The book does remind you throughout the way what things are, which is nice.

I would highly recommend this book!

This book helps those of us who are not camera-intellectuals but who like to use our cameras to capacity. The reference guide for the camera was just OK - this guide helped explain terms and uses in layman's terms, not necessarily those of a photographer. I appreciate being able to refer to it when I'm trying to answer a specific question.

I enjoyed this book - thorough, well written, easily understandable, good value. When I first received I read the entire book then went back multiple times to review the items and information I was most interested in. A wealth of information not only on the Canon 60D, but creating excellent photographs. With the help of this manual/book, I captured some truely amazing (really amazing) images in Belize and Hawaii recently.

i was expecting a basic book that spoke of little true detail - nothing detailed (It's a gift for a friend starting in photography). What I received is something entirely different!!! This book covers all the basics, but it also goes over in great detail (It's about an inch thick!!) all the options and abilities the camera has!! This is one great book! So much so, that after glancing through it, I bought another for myself.

You cannot help but love the "for Dummies" series of books! And this one makes learning to use my EOS 60D a breeze! Far better than trying to decipher the owners manual which is clearly designed for a professional to try and understand. I am still in the first chapter and it already proves to be an excellent resource to make understanding my camera easier.

After reading through the book it has a lot of helpful info for tips who picked up a 60D as their first DSLR. This is a great read to get you up and running beyond fully automatic mode. You technically get get a lot of this from the manual (which I did) but the practical advise makes it much easier to figure out what to use when which leads me to my next point.
I would suggest finding a class at your local camera shop, this made a big difference especially going back and rereading the parts of the book I struggled with since some things are easier to see than read.
