I don't know how Carla White does it differently from other authors, but I just understand the topics in her book at a whole new level of comprehension. Although there is a lot of personality in this guide, which I enjoy, it is more than the author's personal journey with her app development. It is an amazingly helpful guide that walks the reader through the process of creating their first app. I'm mid-way on the journey to creating my first app. This is a well-written highly understandable thorough guide for me.

Right away, the author addresses many of the excuses a novice app developer imagines in their mind including my favorites: "I don't have the time.", "The app market is saturated. I don't stand a chance.", and "What if I fail?".

"People want apps that give them superpowers, help them solve a problem, or simply let them unwind." Chapter 2 is all about the idea for an app. This chapter is my favorite since it is a gold mine of ideas and strategies.

Finding, contracting, and working with a software developer for app code and test is the big topic for Chapter 4. Being a non-iOS seasoned coder myself, I am intrigued with how hard others find working with us. Humbling ...

Chapters 5-7 are all about going live! I'm not there yet. However, the author has been there. She knows how.

Everyone knows that success in the app store, or any endeavor, means going the distance. Something about perseverance.

Pros:
- There are numerous relevant links through the book. Several of the links have accelerated my development or provided a solution (e.g., tribes/proxies, cloud options, testing options/links, graphic design tips).

This book describes the process of creating an iPhone app, from the inception of an idea to marketing, design, development, and maintenance. A lot of the insights came from the author's own experience. There are lots of references throughout the book to companies, sites and tools to help an aspiring app maker on their journey. Although this book seems to be written for a non-technical audience, the marketing insights are useful for developers as well.

This book really rocks at breaking down the process in a clear, organized way. This book is very detailed but it won't bog you down. My confusion and questions as to whether I could really do this disappeared within the first few pages. Carla White's tone is very encouraging, engaging and authentic. The author did a fantastic job organizing the concepts, laying out the pages in a way that leaves room for notes, and explaining concepts using a variety of voices from the app industry. This book does what it says on the tin and is well worth the money.

I devoured 'Idea to iPhone' in a weekend and for the first time can see the whole path our team needs to follow to be able to launch our first app successfully. The book is very tactical and provides not only guidance on how to design and develop your app but also how to market it so that people actually know it exists.

Written in an accessible language, with subtle tips but at the same time formidable. There are a lot of helpful links through the book. Besides that she relates her personal journey, telling experiences that can help all readers.

Having worked in IT for years, but without a clue as to where to start with developing apps, this book was absolutely fantastic. It very quickly took me through the basic principles of design and allowed me to plan out my very first app.
