I feel that this is a great book for those who are considering a career selling real estate and/or who want to know what the process is like for obtaining a license. The author provides a clear and concise presentation of that, along with a discussion of what is important to know for a career and a license.

That said, one unavoidable "problem" is that real estate law varies from state to state, thus it is not practical to cover everything in detail in a dummies book like this. The author does a good job of pointing out such situations, telling the reader that they need to check the laws of their particular state. That's good to let people know, but then it sort of defeats the purpose of having the book in the first place.

The author recommends that his book be used as a supplement to a course(s) for exam preparation, citing as one of his reasons that the law does indeed vary between states. My feeling is that a good real estate course is needed to prep for the exam and that a good course will provide a pretty comprehensive look at all of the subjects that are mentioned in this book (including the non-academic points of preparing to take the test and get a license) and, be specific to the state for which one wants to be licensed.

I'm not knocking the book, but just saying if you know you want to get licensed then sign up for a worthwhile course to help you get that license because it's going to cover everything in the book anyway. But if you are on the fence or just curious about getting a license, then this book is certainly an inexpensive way to get more and useful information about it.

I passed the Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson test on the first try in part due to studying this book! It is well laid out and has confidence building tips throughout.

The book helped me understand key concepts, but was not accurate to the California exam at all. I read it cover to cover and ended up with 1200+ flash cards by the time I finished. I did every practice question including the sample exams, and scored high 90s on all of them. Yes, I did pass the state exam, but I can't attribute that to the material found in this book. The actual exam referenced many CVC codes and, although the author does warn the reader consistently to investigate various state specific issues, at the end of the day, I urge all candidates to seek out other material. This book is well written, well organized, and very informative. You will learn a great deal, and you will most likely USE the material presented in your career... Just don't rely on this as your only source of study if your intention is to pass the state exam.

Great supplemental book to read in addition to your real estate course.

Let me first start off stating that I and my best friend both purchased an online course for a real estate course on Groupon.
The course itself was terrible and did not go into details key concepts and real estate definitions one would need to know to pass the state exam.

This book was very thorough in all aspects. Please note however it does not go into detail on specific state laws, you would have to research that yourself. This book gives you the much needed fundamentals of real estate, policies procedures, etc.

The read is clear and concise, an easy read. After each chapter you are given a mini quiz and it gives you a detailed explaination on the correct answer. Also, at the end of the book you have a real estate math sections and 3 practice tests with details answers.

I recommend reading this book first before taking your actual course and then re-reading it after your course to get a thorough grasp of the concepts. And also recommend to keep retaking the practice tests.

I passed my state exam but it was extremely hard. I had 157 questions, maybe 15 of the questions were similar questions from all my course notes, the book, online research, and various practice tests that I got from other people.
To answer the rest of the questions on the state exam you really need to apply these real estates concepts and select the best answer of the multiple choice...and the only way you will pass realistically is by understanding these concepts. The questions can be tricky so be sure to reread each questions and understand exactly what they are asking.

Let me state right at the start - I am not a real estate agent and may never get into the business, but I will be trying thanks to this great guide by John Yoegel.

Bear in mind that back in 1983 I utilized a similar guide to prepare for the postal service in Oregon. I took the exam and scored number one against 2,200 others. It turned out I opted not to becoming a postal worker due to a better opportunity in Idaho, but I was delighted to score so highly at a time I was forced into evaluating my future.

I discussed the contents of this guide with a friend who is a licensed real estate broker, and another who is a licensed real estate appraiser - both praised the worth of this book even more highly than I am acclaiming it here.

If you are a natural test-taker who always seems to ace any exam thrust before you, you probably won't benefit by plunking down the necessary $23 to purchase Real Estate License Exams for Dummies by John A. Yoegel.

If though, you want to succeed in your new career and/or have fears of failing the exam, well, friend, you need to put your money where your heart is and buy this Must-Read book that includes four comprehensive examinations so you know exactly how it will feel when you actually do take the licensing exam.

Good luck and when you do succeed, perhaps I will be your first client.
