Erica Ridley has written a sweet tale about a woman and a man who fall in love when they least expect it. Both the leads have experienced profound loss and loneliness and these shared emotions forge a bond between them.

Adam Greyhawke has lost his wife and their child and has been living in isolation, at times soaking his misery in alcohol and walking with his faithful dog along the coast. He is therefore surprised when a royal courier arrives telling him that he is now an Earl and guardian to a young cousin. Since Adam plans to never marry again, he feels a responsibility to teach his ward about the estate and that requires him to return to London.

Living in London is Katherine Wright a pert miss who has been rather coddled by her elderly aunt and uncles. Katherine lost her immediate family in a carriage accident and suffered an injured leg. She walks with a cane. Katherine has a goal to marry and have several children.

There are sparks when these two meet in Katherine’s home. Adam is simply enchanted with Katherine and she forgets the rules of propriety with Adam. They are so drawn to each other that minutes feel like hours when they are in each other’s company. The author describes their feelings well, these are two people who fascinate each other. The conflict is, of course, that Adam never wants to have his heart broken again and Katherine is a risk taker.

There are wonderful scenes between these leads that show how much they enjoy each other’s fine minds and there are moments where they are overcome with their need to embrace. They are not boring and even their thought process is interesting. The reader fully understands Adam’s quandary and also empathizes with Katherine’s desire to carry on the memory of her lost siblings through her future children. These leads push each other to be braver and their romance is touching and amorous.

It was a good story. I didn't like that there seemed to be no climax to the story. Also, the passion they had for each other fizzled out before they actually came together. The love scenes were hot as long as they had clothes on and then they were not. This whole book was completely predictable.

It is always good to see the hero looking beyond the surface, in this case Ms Katherine Wright. Sweet, touching love story between Adam and Katherine. Throw in an orphaned nephew, you got the ingredients right. Full of great emotions, that is why I felt the title did not do the story justice. In any case, i enjoyed her books and look forward to more.

Men! *hits Adam over the head with an umbrella*
I get it, but still *hits him over the head again with a slightly broken umbrella*
Just one more for the road *hits him over the head with a very broken umbrella*

Adam mourns his wife, who died in childbirth. I get it, and you have the right to mourn, and you have mourned. That was not the problem. The problem was his "I will never marry again cos my new wife will die too." Oh Adam, sweetie, no. That just makes me sad. He wants to go through life alone, I get it, you are scared, but then you meet the love of your life and you are willing to just let her go? See her marry someone else. Oh Adam.

Katherine, well she will not get an umbrella over the head. She is the niece of a Duke. She lost her family in a carriage accident (oh those carriages!). She has a limp, she can't dance. She has promised her uncle to marry within the year. She has a suitor she might accept. She meets a handsome Earl and is lost. And she does want him, but as you can see he had his issues. I do get why she would want to move on eventually and have all those kids she wants.

But this is a romance novel, we all know they will work it out...after a while. But before that there are stolen kisses. Sweet heartache and romance.
(I did feel sorry for the suitor, I hope he meets a nice girl, this one was so not for him. So now I do not feel sorry for you anymore. You will get the umbrella soon mister!)

Conclusion:
A sweet story. And that is why I like her books.

This was my first book by this author. I loved the story of Adam, Katherine and Dixon. It had everything I enjoy in a story. Three enjoyable characters. I loved the dog too! I will now read the first 2 books and add her to my favorite authors list. Don't miss this one.

I very much liked this novel from the start. Romantic, emotional and a true win Amelia Grey will certainly steal the hearts of readers with this release.

From the beginning the book was beautifully written with a few rougher edges. In truth the plot is entirely centered around the romance and that is just how I like my historical-romances to be. There was nothing missing from this book based solely on the romance. In fact I couldn't take my eyes off of the novel for too long because I was too anxious to continue my reading.

My favorite part about the story (it was hard to choose) is that both Adam and Katherine had to convince one another that their relationship was woven around true love. Adam was torn, almost like a lost soul after the death of his first wife and Katherine had been burned before by the events of life. Both were certainly searching for something, only I don't think they were counting that in finding one another the answers were hidden in the embrace of their love.
