This book, advertised as an ABC on Australia. DO NOT purchase this book as a gift if you think it will be depicting Australia accurately. The research is mostly accurate, but any Australian would know that some of the depictions are ridiculous. Strine! Nobody I know refers to the English they speak as Strine, this is hilarious. The flag - 6 states and 2 territories does not add up to the points on the star and every Australian child knows this! Mob - although this is a large group of kangaroos, when a person refers to a mob, it is very rarely about kangaroos. This is THE most disappointing children's book purchase I have made. I wanted a book reflecting my country to give as a gift to friends to help explain Australia, what I found was some truth and some colorful pictures scattered with inaccuracies. It is disappointing, now I do not trust any of the other books in the Country ABC series, what is accurate what is not? I can't give someone a gift and then have to sit with them and explain - well this isn't really true!

0 stars would be more apt.

G-day, mate! Welcome to the country of Australia. This book will introduce your child to twenty six facts and more about Australia via the ABC's. On the first page, before the alphabet begins, the reader is shown on a map where Australia is and some additional information. On each page of the alphabet there is an illustration and details on the topic. What I also love is the fact that the difficult alphabet words have the pronunciation beside them. For example: didgeridoo (did-juh-ree-DOO)

Do you know what "tucker" is? What about a yabby? Learn these facts and more in this book.

At the end of the book there is a page with instructions on how to make your own rock painting. Want to learn some Strine? Some popular words provided. There is a section of 'Fast Facts' providing information on the capital, population, highest and lowest point, natural resources, chief exports etc. There is also a glossary provided along with an index.

Although definitely not a comprehensive book on the country, your young child will get a glimpse into some of the history, culture and present day, hopefully whetting their appetite to do more research.

I read a page at a time and have students try and memorize the alphabet with each letter. For example, We start with A is for Australia, and the next child will say, "A is for Australia and B is for baby" and so on. OK, those aren't the ones from the book, just examples. It's a fun twist and makes reading interactive. :)

I read this book to my 4th grade students. They were thrilled with the pictures and very engaged with the content. A great instructional book about Australia as well as a fun alphabet book.

Used as an intro to an art lesson. Good book. I can't believe they require a minimum amount of words. Crazy. They want an opinion and then ask for so many words. What are they nuts!
