Superb text. Worked out of this book, page by page with 10 college theatre students. Highly recommend it for academic use and for personal reading. Very solid text helpful in gaining a strong foundation in movement theatre that is rapidly overtaking the mainstream. Many of LeCoq's ideas are visible everywhere in the NY theatre. Pig Iron Theatre Company is a great example of a group of LeCoq trained performers, and is also a resource for learning more, if you are in the Philly/New York area.

A very good book for any person who loves theatre, the real one.
Many exercises to learn how to control and then express yourself through your body.

Es un excellente libro, pero es necesario haber tomado clases de la enseñanza de Lecoq para entederlo mejor.

I have to agree with the other reviews so far. This is a great book on the theatre. There are so many out there that just spew out the same tired stuff in a slightly new package. Lecoq is the real deal. It has a place on my "favorites" bookshelf, where I go when I need inspiration. Lots of great exercises. Lots of great ideas.

This is the last account by Jacques Lecoq of a pedagogy he developed using theatre but taking in creative experience generally inspired by "nature". This is his story - a wise way to approach drama.

Always heard about this, never looked into it. Just took a summer intensive of this work at Brooklyn College. I only wish I had read this book in my youth so that I could then have done the full training. It's great, great physical training for any theater creator.

When approaching the book from my perspective, hoping to add to my knowledge of masks and performance know-how, the book barely qualified as my desired subject matter. Why might this be, with an obvious concentration on theatre? The book, and I read it through and through, is basically a long-winded wonton advertisement for a living theatre-school with a teaching method, since, either changed or under new management. One may not "follow" the exercises because they are written in a candid and inconsequential way. One may not join the described school because its parts are no longer collectable. This makes following the book rather futile.
The author may be a legend, but, this book does nothing to perpetuate his methods or his vision because it simply isn't written that way--appearing less important than the esteem and memory of the physical school. A practical version of this book could be produced in which the exercises may be followed, in which the methods are discernible, so that the emphasis is committal, but such a book may not be produced from this text alone.
