I know and correspond with a savant that I met while volunteering with adults with special needs over about the past twenty years. So this book was special for me. It took a lot of savvy for Daniel to describe his fears and interests as we progressed into his life and adulthood. I admire his efforts to improve his life, his habits, his relationships. I really enjoyed Daniel's story.

These kinds of stories always fascinate me. What a tremendous amount to human potential remains to be discovered! I consider it a "must read" for anyone in education.

I gave it four stars because, supposedly, he is not an actual savant, however, I was curious about what he'd done to make so many people certain he was a savant. This book increased my interest in memory and mental math training because, for him, the results were so astonishing. I read Moonwalking With Einstein first, so I knew this book was somewhat bogus. But it's really exciting to know that through training and application, you can be confused with a savant--by experts! That is truly remarkable! Especially since I've always longed to be able to do fast calculations and remember everything that I've wanted to remember. I'm psyched.

Interesting, it was pretty good. But I wasn't thrilled by it. Read it if you have time, but if your reading time is special and limited then move on :) I am fascinated by synaesthesia though, so I do think it was really interesting.
