Everyone in the education world today is talking about how the US is behind in education specifically Science, Math , technology and engineering. With the job force headed into a technology driven direction. These subjects are going to be important for students to be interested in and to excel in. Drew discusses in his book the history of US education. This same concern of "falling behind" and something new. What is needed in order for US students to excel in these subjects. He doesn't blame any one "person" he discusses reforms from professional development to administration and even as elementary as pre-service programs. Drew gives statistics supporting his suggestions and detailed ideas and examples. This book is full of information and relative to any teacher going into one of these fields. I would recommend this book to any student who wants to be a teacher in one of these fields or a teacher going into the elementary level of teaching who doesn't have a full understanding of mathematics. The importance of STEM subjects is finally being addressed in the US and anyone interested in learning more about the topics should read Drew's book.

STEM The Tide is more than just a book about science and science education, it is an atlas, a road map. In STEM, author David Drew shows us how to regain our Science Swagger! In the first part of the book, he provides lots of convincing arguments for change, but in my case, he is preaching to the choir. I've spent 35 years as a science educator in some of the toughest schools in the Los Angeles area. I also taught at a parochial prep school in the Midwest for a couple of years. What I learned it that kids are kids and we are letting the current generation of kids down. We must upgrade and streamline our efforts in science education or see our best and brightest leave us to go to other countries for top tier science education. We are losing the innovation edge edge and our people are ill prepared for managing science careers or their own health. In the 19th century, we came of age. In the 20th century we lead the way. In the 21st century.....? Dr. David Drew has drawn us a road map to massive success.
