I bought this book to use in our homeschool home with my 1st and 3rd grade aged children. They love how colorful this book is. The descriptions were simple enough for my elementary aged children to understand and not get lost in the words. Plus I enjoyed reading it myself too. Would suggest to other homeschool families with children in 1st-5th to share as a read aloud. This book would also work great for an additional read to someone in the upper grades.

I bought this book to go with our Science unit this fall. We are using Elemental Science and this was one of the recommended books. It is small but has a lot of bright pictures and filled with great info to go with our plant section. We are using it for 1st grade but I think it is a great into for any grade without talking down too much to older kids but still being easy to understand for younger kids.

I bought all the books in the "Life of Plants" series as a way to teach Botany to my 2nd grader. My only complaint about "Plant Parts" is that it mentions different kinds of plants and trees as examples of this or that, but then there are no illustrations to accompany those mentions. For example, "The horse chestnut tree (insert Latin name here) has small buds that are as black as ash from a dead fire." Okay, great. How about a picture to help them visualize that? "On plants such as the beech (Latin name here), leaf veins branch off from this central midrib. On other plants, such as buffalo grass (insert Latin name), the leaf veins are all lined up from top to bottom." Again, no pictures. The book does this over and over again, just throwing out examples of this or that without illustrating what these things look like. It just adds to the jumble of information with no clear purpose. More illustrations would be helpful.
