I only regret that it didn't come out on audible as I waited & waited to read it only to find out it wasn't coming out as an audio book. But the story was great I would recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal series that aren't sappy and tired.

A good ending to the trilogy. It's good to get some closure, however this book is filled with deus ex machinas, people and things getting powers just in time to save the day.

Otherwise, this book was enjoyable and overall a decent trilogy.

Chris Evans continues his mastery of the genre. The eagerly awaited book three of the iron elves does not disappoint his fans.
A spellbinding series of twists, turns and surprises. A must read!! I shall look forward to the next Chris Evans mind-stirring book.

This is the third and final installment of the Iron Elves trilogy.
Evans has created some memorable characters faced with external and internal conflicts.
Swift Dragon remains the main focus but many we see grow and exceed who they were while others grow but it is less obvious as in the case of the prince.
As they race toward the final confrontation with the Monarch many join in the race on both sides of the conflict with an ending that was both surprising and yet fitting all at once.
This book draws on military history as well as ancient lore and magic making it both an odd combination but just as well and in some cases brings flashes of Glen Cook's Black company.

I would highly recommend this and also look forward to future endeavors by Chris Evans.

This is the fitting conclusion to a vastly different take on fantasy, one that I quite enjoyed reading, and would recommend to anyone who is tired of the "formula" that abounds in modern fantasy novels today.

The hero is not too "goody-goody" and his experiences are quite well described by the author...its almost as if you are watching a movie while reading.

Not for those with a fixed "Tolkein" take on fantasy...more for those who want something different. Great end to a fine work of fantasy.

This last chapter of the Iron Elves saga starts out promising enough. But I got the feeling that Evans was trying to wrap it up. Thing progress at a jerky pace and the chapters, especially at the end seem kinda disjointed. The ending for me was a huge let down and nonsensical.

Major Konowa knows his Iron Elves' Swift Dragon unit fought valiantly against the elf witch. Those who survived the epic combat need time to heal, but the adversary still comes at them relentlessly. Konowa knows his courageous battered force is in trouble as the Shadow Monarch continues its evil assault though somewhat abated.

Struggling with what to do next, Konowa decides his side has one chance, which is to take the war directly to the enemy rather than retreat. He understands waiting to heal is lethally dangerous so he chooses a seemingly suicidal mission, which ironically will not be appreciated by the people of the Calahrian Empire who his Iron Elves try to protect as the tattoo on them symbolizes their subservience to the enemy that they fight against with their blood and guts. The major will soon learn probably too late the evil enemy he fights against is nothing compared to the real evil enemy lurking in the fog and chaos of war.

Book 3 of the Iron Elves military fantasy (see A Darkness Forged in Fire and The Light of Burning Shadows) is a super entry as the beleaguered Swift Dragon struggle to keep fighting while those they keep safe (mostly humans) loathe them. The story line is action-packed and at its best when the focus is on combat, military readiness and the impact of war on the soldiers and the civilians. When the plot turns romantic it detracts from an otherwise excellent blood and guts thriller.
