Product Description

Eastridge Academy is where the realm’s finest train to become adventurers. The resourceful become Mages, learning combat casting and rune magic. The cunning and sneaky become Thieves, learning pick-pocketing and stealth. The studious and compassionate can be found in the Cleric major, and the strongest and bravest students attempt to earn a place in the brutal Warrior major. Being a first-year student at Eastridge is particularly difficult. As a new student, Princess Averi has dangerous combat classes to pass, the nobility to please, and on top of all that, her roommate is the menacing Wisteria Ling, the best combat caster of all the first-year students. Luckily, the two soon befriend Rai Ravin, a Thief major who might just be charming enough to talk his way out of anything. Along with Fell, a farm-boy attempting the Warrior major, these four will learn how to fight, how to use magic, and how to survive being an adventurer...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, December 24, 2008
"Eastridge Academy: School For Adventurers" is not the most in depth book I've ever read. It doesn't plumb the depths of the human soul. It doesn't have characters unlike any you have read before. But it doesn't try to do any of these things, and that's just fine.

This book is a lot of fun as it takes you on romps through what is effectively a high school for fantasy heroes. Where did that dragon slayer learn how to sling his sword? Where did that all-powerful wizard learn how to cast his first fireball? More likely than not it was at Eastridge Academy. But this is still high school, complete with cool kids, jocks, and school dances.

To warn you, this book does use alot of stereotypes. However, it uses them how I think they should be used, as a baseline as opposed to the entirety of a character. So unless you think that there is something inherently wrong with using stereotypes at all (they are there for a reason) I seriously doubt that you'll mind.

In conclusion, if you're looking for heavy reading, look someplace else. But if you're looking for a mostly light-hearted quick-paced adventure, this is your bag baby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good light reading, January 7, 2009
While this isn't Lord of the Rings, it is a good read that I'd suggest for almost anyone interested in fantasy books. It's not a book that you can expect deep thought-provocation or anything like that, but when you just want to pick up a book and enjoy it for the sake of it being a good book - this is a really good choice. It's great for both casual and serious readers, and that in itself is quite a big accomplishment.
