For anyone interested in preparing for the worst, this book provides concise, practical advice and exercises designed to ensure your survival. Detailed guidelines for what you need to succeed and perhaps most importantly; who you need on your team. This is a topic which doesn't get covered often, but can be the make-or-break factor in how you and your family come out of difficult situations.

I liked the book. I feel it was well written, researched and contained some good advice it one's efforts to defend your home and family. I found his advice for the novice, non-military and non-police folks who are armed in their preparedness efforts well thought out and covers most of possibilities one may face in a disaster situation and general collapse of police/fire and no EMS.

Well written, somewhat advanced for my use but I don't think that is a bad thing. I especially found the list of items I should have on hand for emergencies (of all types), and I think the only thing Terry omitted is bringing his book along.

Our lives have become digitally dependent - from directions and maps, communication, entertainment, finance and commerce. Joseph Terry provides the common sense steps to be measured and prepared in the event danger enters your home or your life. Unlike similar books it provides sound non-conspiratorial solutions to potential events to which no one is immune. The strategies and practices don't lend comfort but do provide a sense of preparedness, awareness, mindfulness and confidence for the entire family or group.

I'm a woman reader and the best thing about this book is that I can actually relate to it. Many books on this topic are real turn-offs with crazy anti-government tirades or chapter after chapter on gun stuff that I can't relate to. I especially like the author's ideas about dealing with needy neighbors. He says "Its better to feed your neighbors than shoot them." and I agree with that position. The chapter on emergency medical treatment for wounds was really helpful and I made some good changes to my medical supplies. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants basic information on easy steps to be better prepared.
