My five grandchildren were coming for a week-long visit, so I ordered this book to get ideas for fun things to do with them. We had a great time doing some of the experiments, and I really appreciated the clear directions and illustrations. The children range in age from 20 months to nine years, so I didn't spend a lot of time explaining the scientific principles, but I did let the kids do as much as they could for each experiment. We started with the Ivory soap in the microwave; the kids were amazed! Then we polished pennies with vinegar and salt; that was ok. They loved the density experiment with layers of colored liquids (we did the one you can drink)! We had fun with the balloon rockets on a string (we tied it to the top of our deck and sent the rockets up from the yard). The grand finale was the Diet Coke and Mento rocket - so much fun, although I told the kids they had to keep watching since it's over quickly. My husband took lots of photos of our experiments and a video of the Diet Coke rocket so we could watch it again. Next time the grandkids visit we'll try some more ideas from this great book!

For full disclosure, I was provided this book for review by the author. That being said, the opinion within is mine and my sons'.

First off, let me just say that as a SAHD (stay at home dad) I'm constantly on the lookout for stuff to do with my sons. Sure, getting on the floor and playing blocks and superheroes is great, but they just aren't the same as getting 'hands on' with your crafts. So, doing what most parents do, I jumped on the interwebs! And I found that weaving through Pinterest was clumsy at best. You click the pin, go to a site, then most times you realize you have to click through again to get to the actual site with the project on it. And, often, that's the only project listed on said site. It's time-consuming and clunky.

Then, Mr. Adamick, wrote a book that made me burn with envy "Dad's Book of Awesome Projects: From Stilts and Super-Hero Capes to Tinker Boxes and Seesaws, 25+ Fun Do-It-Yourself Projects for Families". Why? Because it was the book, I wanted to write...but hadn't. Then, I got the notification that there would be a follow-up book and I thought, "What else do we need? What is he going to build? An internal combustion engine out of tinfoil and rubberbands?"

I was excited to hear it was going to be about science! My son is turning 5 this summer, and he is SO curious about how the world works and WHY it works the way it does. And, we spend a lot of time on google looking for neat projects. Google no longer! This book is it. It's just as awesome as the first one. Included with each experiment, is an explanation of the science behind what's happening that doesn't talk down to parents nor does it speak over anyone's head. SCORE!

My two boys (9 and 6) and I love this book. The experiments are a lot of fun, most of the items can be found around the house, and we are learning/re-learning a ton about science in an authentic way. Great activity book for parents looking for easy projects to do with their kids.

I got this book for my husband to play with our daughter but I ended up using it while he was gone working all summer. It was awesome! She loves exploring science and even if an experiment doesn't come out the way we thought it would she loved finding out that result too! I know we'll use this book more in the future with our next child as well. Great job!

Not only does this book help kids learn, but it takes the approach that famed professor Randy Pausch (The Last Lecture) called, "the head fake," meaning that the kids are having fun doing science, and that learning is a byproduct of that joy. My kids and I have vowed to do at least one experiment a day over the summer, and I think that is an easily attainable goal, since Adamick's experiments are not only easy enough to accomplish one day at a time, but they are also designed with the working parent in mind (i.e., inexpensive). This book is going to make a perfect accompaniment to summer fun, as it will not only provide memories of time spent with dad, but it will also keep their brains engaged, rather than turn to mush by watching TV or playing video games all summer long.

Just received this book a few days ago and while I have yet to try the experiments with my daughter I would say that the title is deceiving. I could see my wife having just as much fun trying some of these experiments as well.

Many of these experiments made me think "Wow, I can't believe how simple and awesome that is!"

A few weeks ago, CuteMonster.com was sent a review copy of Dad's Book of Awesome Science Experiments by Mike Adamick. I was delighted to discover that Mike has the unique talent for explaining difficult concepts in a fun approachable way. In my opinion, that's key to engaging young kids who may find science daunting. My oldest son was apprehensive when looking at the table of contents because of his lack of exposure to Biology, Chemistry and so forth. But after taking the time to sift through the myriad of experiments he realized the amazing fun that awaited. The instructions for each experiment are straightforward, whimsical and smartly written. So far my son has made a list of his first top ten experiments we'll be tackling together. I'm elated to witness his love of science beginning. I can't wait to include my younger daughter as well. Well done Mike! I can't recommend this book enough. Fun with science awaits!
