Absolutely Truly is a winner! Heather Vogel Frederick, author of The Mother Daughter Bookclub series, has done it again! She has created a wonderful new heroine with the likes of Truly Lovejoy, a 6 ft. tall, awkward but lovable 12 year old, "stuck-in-the-middle" of four siblings, transplant to small town, Pumpkin Falls, NH. Finding her way in this new landscape, themes of family, friendship, mystery, fun and bravery are all woven together in a rich tapestry of entertaining characters in this charming New England town.
Frederick has a beautiful way of capturing the heart, mind, and humor of growing up. Written from Truly's perspective, her quirky intelligence and candid observations are a hoot (shout out to her favorite bird)! The story has a classic and nostalgic feel that, although set in present day, reveals the timeless magic of childhood, and the daily discoveries and curiousities living in a small community can bring. Book lovers will enjoy the bookstore setting and the references to Charlotte's Web, Shakespeare, and more. This book made me want to stay curled up by the fire, reading more and more wonderful literature. It reminds readers that there's nothing like a heartfelt story to revive the wonder of reading in this day and age of too much technology. All ages will enjoy this delightful book! Bravo Heather Vogel Frederick! More Truly adventures, please!

What a fun read! I bought this for my daughter and I to read. I breezed through it excited for her to start. She is almost finished reading it. My son and husband were curious about our book chats and started reading it to. We have begun a book club with my children's tween friends and everyone is in love with this story. This book appeals to the whole family with relatable characters, mystery, and a good dose of humor. So happy to have discovered Heather Vogel Frederick and look forward to reading more of her stories.

This is a fun novel, with the exciting plot element of a mysterious treasure hunt.. It's the type of children's novel I like best -- one like the Penderwicks which has a modern setting, but somehow a classic feel.

Truly Lovejoy and her family (yes, it's a family name) have moved to their grandparents' house in New Hampshire to help run the family bookstore. Truly's dad was just about to leave the army when he was injured, changing their plans to settle down in Texas for good.

This is a novel featuring topics that will resonate with many kids -- moving, making new friends, being different (Truly is only 12 and recently shot up to 6 feet tall), being part of a big family, military families, amputees, small town life and more.

I enjoyed it and can't wait to share this one with my 10 year old son, just like I shared this author's Mother Daughter Bookclub series with my daughter when she was about this age.

Twelve-year-old Truly Lovejoy is truly unhappy to move from Texas to New Hampshire so her dad can take over the family bookstore. But her grandparents needed to retire and her father needed time to heal and look for a new occupation after a war injury changed his physical abilities.

So once again Truly is starting over at a new school trying to make new friends. Not an easy task when she towers over all the other middle schoolers. But when she discoveries an unusual note in a rare copy of Charlotte’s Web, she finds that the hunt to solve the mystery helps her settle into the community in unexpected ways.

In Absolutely Truly, Heather Vogel Frederick (author of The Mother-Daughter Book Club series) brings together a variety of story lines to create one satisfying tale. There’s the large family with a wounded war veteran dad who’s having difficulty adjusting to life as an amputee. There’s a girl who feels awkward because she’s so much taller than most of her peers. There are the benefits and drawbacks of living in a small community where most people know each other. And there’s the mystery of the note, which helps broaden Truly’s circle of friends as she involves them in figuring out a series of clues.

Fans of Frederick’s mother-daughter book club books will find a lot to like in Absolutely Truly. As in that series, the story here unfolds gently, letting readers get to know the characters and appreciate their quirks along the way. Truly is also a strong role model for young girls: smart, active, respectful, and a good friend. Her struggles with schoolwork and interactions with her siblings make her easy to relate to. I highly recommend Absolutely Truly to mother-daughter book clubs with girls aged 9 to 12.

The publisher provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I loved everything about this book from the adorable cover to the quirky small town characters. Heather Vogel Frederick introduces us to the charming town of Pumpkin Falls, where 12 year old Truly has moved with her family to try to rescue not only their family bookstore but their father, a wounded warrior. When Truly discovers a secret clue in the pages of Charlotte's Web, she and her friends embark on a hunt to solve the mystery. The writing was excellent and the characters real and lovable. Hope there is more to come in this series.
