Who knew vegetables could be so much fun? A picture book just about vegetables? I was skeptical, but the author won me over with her great rhyming and large colorful pictures of everything from carrots to swiss chard. The book has a great read aloud flow, and the reader is encouraged to "bounce for beets", and perhaps my favorite; "yum a yam". This book will bring a smile to the faces of any story time audience. The author doesn't forget to give a nod to the farmers who grow all of these gorgeous vegetables and also to the bees who help them along the way. Kids will see a lot of their favorites, plus a few they might not recognize(bok choy, Kohlrabi), all laid out at a farmers market.

The author provides a brief postscript to offer up the definition of a vegetable and to expand a bit on the benefits of healthy eating. This is a great choice for any child's personal collection, a classroom, or story time. It's exuberance and beautiful photographs make me echo the author's last double page spread: "Veggies Rock!"

As a veggie-hating, book-loving child, l think my attitude towards healthy eating would have drastically different had I read RAH RAH RADISHES! April Pulley Sayre's
catchy chant promoting the joys of vegetables is fun, educational and never preachy. Along with her light-hearted approach to the gifts of Mother Earth, Sayre's beautiful photography turn the produce section into a jewelry display of edible delights. RAH, RAH, RADISHES is a terrific antidote for all the "yummy"-but-not-so-good-for-you food that is so predominate in the U.S. I hope someone sends a copy of RADISHES to the First Gardener herself, First Lady Michelle Obama.

My 3-year old son just loves this book read aloud. He's memorized so much of it, he can just about recite the entire thing. It has become a centerpiece of our daily routines--for example, instead of just saying "Oh boy!", we now say, "Oh boy, bok choy! Brussels sprout!" Some of his other favorite phrases: "Bounce for beets!", "Grab that garlic, please your palate!" (that one really cracks me up), and of course, "Veggies ROCK!" I'm looking forward to either a paperback or board book edition that I can buy for his day care center. I wonder if there might some day be similar books that celebrate fruit or other foods?

My husband told me to get the hardcover for our long term family collection but for baby (her favorite book) I couldn't resist this baby board book! I appreciate that the edges were rounded, not sharp. I have my own little tune I 'sing' this to baby with and it aids in getting her happy to read this with me! It rhyme's as it takes you along a series of various photographed market vegetables (even introducing me to some new ones!) encouraging youngsters to give them all a try. Perfectly thought out!

I love the concept of this book and it is sturdy enough for a baby, but aesthetically I wanted it to look a little more fine tuned. That said it is great for introducing babies to all the veggies and, in the case where I gifted it, my American friend's Rwandian husband to them too. :)

We are vegetarians and although my kids are usually pretty good about eating veggies they do get into ruts - heck even I get in a veggie rut. A friend of mine got this out at the library and shared on FB the load of veggies her kids picked out after reading the story - they were so excited about new veggies. There they were eating artichokes, peeling purple carrots and chowing down on brussel sprouts. So I figured we had to have this book too!

The pictures are beautiful and vibrant - a lot are taken at various farm stands and markets so you get a glimpse of other veggies that may not be mentioned on that particular page which is fine with me - it peaks the kids interest. My kids really enjoyed seeing how brussel sprouts grow on giant stalks and look like trees. We made a game out of matching the names of the squash to their counterpart. And at the site of the little green tomatoes growing on the vine my daughter yelled "We need to check our tomato plants!" (although we probably won't find much on them in November!). The chant is super cute and fun to read. I liked this story so much I ordered a copy of this one and the fruit chant for our Montessori school - I know it'll be a favorite there too. Kudos to this author for finding a way to get kids excited about veggies!

My two-and-half year old daughter loves this book ever since her daycare teacher read it to them. She has every page memorized and loves reading it out loud to us and her stuffed animals. It's a great way for kids to get to know all the vegetables and foster a genuine love towards eating them.

This was a featured book at our daycare and we bought it after thumbing through it at school. Marvelous, gorgeous full color photographs that REALLY show what raw veggies look like. Text calls them out by name and is very sophisticated for a children's book. My son likes this book a lot and especially loves to point out the veggies he likes and does not like. A great primer for incorporating veggies into your life to lay the groundwork for healthier eating. Good quality book.
