I did enjoy THE MASK alot, this was a good eerie novel dealing with reincarnation, it seemed obvious in the beginning, but like any Koontz novel the obvious lies within the unobvious, and when we are finally allowed to look outside the box, we are shown a bigger picture than originally thought. I did enjoy the supernatural element, but The Mask did have a few flaws that kept it from greatness: One being, that Koontz, never really explains the supernatural element that was tipping off the main charactors; were the spirits good or bad? Also, the book ended too abruptly,It was wrapped up in 10 pages. We never know the fate of the charactors, did they live happily ever after? But over all I'll try to stay positive and The Mask is a good early novel for Koontz.

I'm a Koontz fan...I can't claim to have read EVERY book of his, but I have read quite a few, and this was far from his best.

The concept was brilliant - a girl with no memory essentially falling into the lap of a couple trying to adopt a child, yet beneath the surface of the girl lurks something malignant and totally out of character with what everyone normally sees.

The execution of the book was somewhat poor, and the tension was, for the most part lacking. Perhaps more noticeable for those more familiar with his more recent novels was the lack of depth of his characters. In, say, By The Light Of The Moon or The Face, you really understand and come to care about the characters. In this book, however, they seem more like cardboard cutouts that are moved around to facilitate the author's needs. The ending was pretty abrupt also, and given how he had dragged everything else out, the incomplete and sudden end was sadly disappointing.

I don't want to give you the impression that it was the worst book ever written, but if you're wanting to read Koontz for the first time, I'd suggest a better one (such as the two I mentioned earlier).

From all the books i have read so far, I think none of them can come close to this magnificent piece of story telling. The mask is about reincarnation, and without giving too much of the story away, an ancient rivalry that goes back through the years. Very chilling and well written and as always, Koontz uses his knowledge of the real world to make the story stand out.

One of the worst Dean Koontz I have ever had the misfortune to read. I am happy that I was a fan before reading The Mask, or he would have never gotten me hooked.

The story seems rushed and cumbersome. He stays way too long using up all the adjectives he can recall to describe every nook and cranny of a scene, but leaves the plot empty where more information or character development would help the reader to feel more "in" the plot. I like a story that transports me there, not just by descriptive scenery, but also with being able to feel the characters emotions etc.

The Mask felt like the first draft of a real novel. I usually have to tear myself away from a Dean Kontz novel because I am excited and curious about how the plot thickens, while at the same time not wanting to get to the end and finish my exhilarating experience...not this time. I completed The Mask in one sitting and the only jolt I got was when I got to the end.

The abrupt, untidy ending wasn't even the sort that made you feel like maybe there is a part 2. Au contraire, the ending felt like Koontz got annoyed with writing this annoyingly written novel and just decided to end it there so he could go on to spend more time on his better written novels.

Excellent read.
I loved the way Dean Koontz tied up all the loose ends.
I'm a believer of reincarnation so for me this really was a good read.
Thriller plus reincarnation, what more could one ask for.

This was one of Dean's laziest books.I have read all of his stuff and man, can he get lazy. This one is bad if your a serious fan of his. He put no effort into it. The plot and characters were weak and predictable and the ending made keep flipping the last pages for more story thinking that this couldn't possibly be it!. If I have to use THAT much imagination there's no need to buy books.I miss the old Koontz. The "ODD" days, and Christopher Snow, "Snowman." I doubt he'll ever return. I won't be spending anymore time or money on Dean Koontz.I wrote to him and said so.

Good condition. Quick delivery. One cannot make up for not a good story in a book. Glad I was able to find this hard to find novel. After reading surprised the novel was not burned by those who read it to save others from the reading of the book.

When I was a teenager this was the first Dean Koontz book I ever read, my father was a huge fan of his novels and after reading The Mask I was enthralled by his stories and have read many of his books, something that my father and I shared. I love the feeling of not being able to put the book down, needing to know what happens next, and then , at the end , being upset that its over cause the book was so good. That's how I've felt about all of Dean Koontz's books, my favorite being Odd Thomas. He is a brilliant storyteller and I just really enjoyed re-reading the first of his I have ever read years later. Can't wait to read some more!
