Sorry I really tried to like this. I got it from a local bookstore and returned it. It is not very original --using the same old CBT strategies that have been around for years-- and just says it's now for couples/PTSD. I found it written in a quite boring style and got little out of it. Oh well.

Excellent book. I think this approach is very good. Easy to read, easy to understand. Great for therapists who specialize in couples therapy.

It is well-known that posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be an incredibly destructive force, often wreaking havoc in the sufferer's interpersonal relationships, pushing loved-ones away and further alienating an individual who is in dire need of support. Links between social support and PTSD symptomatology are strong; stable, healthy social-support can serve to moderate and lessen PTSD symptoms, whereas, unstable or non-existent social-support may serve to exacerbate symptoms. Out of this idea comes a very unique intervention for PTSD that seeks to strengthen interpersonal bonds between sufferers and their partners in order to elicit his/her help in attacking and overcoming this force (PTSD) seeking to rip apart the relationship and run out-of-control through the sufferer's life.

Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Therapy (CBCT) for PTSD is an highly-effective, exceptionally accessible intervention and will be a cherished addition to any mental health provider's therapeutic "toolkit." An understanding of the methods contained in this manual will definitely enrich your skill base and aid your work with clients with PTSD. Drs. Monson and Fredman do a wonderful job of laying out the intervention from start to finish with clear explanations of the theoretical background for CBCT and its therapeutic process, relatable examples and helpful guides for achieving client buy-in, and a surplus of therapeutic materials for the client-dyad to use to facilitate dialogue and change while out of session.

As an Army veteran and mental-health professional, I can without any reservation state that CBCT is a definite must for anyone working with active-duty, veterans, or military/veteran families.
