Full disclosure: Dr. Terrell was my best professor at Nova Southeastern where I earned my Ed.S. He is not only amazing at explaining the use of statistics (his other book), he is the only professor that ever explained the dissertation process to me in a way that made sense. If you are writing a dissertation, this is the book you need.

Okay, so this is like the fifth or sixth text on how to plan and write a dissertation proposal that I've read. And what a pleasant surprise!

Unlike most of its counterparts that read almost as confusing as the proposal stage itself, this book presents the rationale behind the essential components of each proposal chapter in concise, easy-to-follow language. In particular, the author's insight that the problem statement, the purpose statement, the research questions, the hypotheses from chapter 1 of the proposal must be logically connected to the literature review in chapter 2 was very inspiring personally. I also liked how concrete examples are provided to illustrate the logical considerations behind each (sub)section of the proposal.

In all honesty, this is perhaps the only text I've read that actually does what it set out to accomplish -- to demystify the proposal planning and writing process, that is.

Excellent guide to writing a dissertation proposal. The author writes in a very engaging style and clearly and succinctly covers all the bases. There may be some review if you've already taken some research methodology course work but Dr. Terrell puts all of your course work into the context of proposal writing. It all comes together in these pages.
