Inn this story Alexander the pirate is joined by Caley his baby sister when they are approached by strangers in another boat. The lesson taught here is not to talk to strangers. Read this cute story to discover the secret weapon Captain No beard has in his arsenal.
Another great book by this author

Education:

The book is just like the others in the series. It's not to long nor to short and the story was cute. For the education value it didn't have too many new words for my little cousins to learn but it was fun for them to read through. Though there were no important morals for the kids to really learn about, it did give the kids an impression that they should play with their little younger cousins a little bit more often and that playing with kids of younger age isn't a boring or gross thing to do. So even though the educational value of this book is low compared to the other books in the series it is still a good story that my little cousins enjoyed reading.

Pictures:

Since this book is apart of a series the pictures were similar to the other books. They're all bright and colorful and the kids love looking through them all. This one was able to keep their attention for about 20min which in my book helps a lot especially when you just want some quiet time.

Storyline:

The story line was really cute and the ending had my little cousins laughing hysterically. It had Captain No Beard playing with his little cousin which I found helpful because when I was talking to my little cousins about playing with their younger cousins on an upcoming play date they were a bit wary of playing with them since well their younger cousins are still toddlers and toddlers tend to break things and droll a lot. But this one book really made them excited about their next play date which I'm thankful for.

Binding:

The binding is pretty good. It is a lot sturdier then it looks and the book did survive through a lot of little hands. So hopefully this book will last for a while. Plus the book is thin which makes for easy storage.

Strangers On The High Seas is the fourth installment of the "Captain No Beard" series by Carole P. Roman. We once again find Alexander aka Captain No Beard and First Mate Hallie on another seaworthy adventure. This time a new member, his baby sister Cayla, has joined the crew of his ship the Flying Dragon.

Captain No Beard struggles with having to watch his baby sister and yet, keep his ship afloat. Upon this adventure, the crew encounters the most dangerous pirates of Captain Barnabas and First Mate Crab Cakes. Captain No Beard's crew does not know these pirates, for they are strangers and decides to stay clear of them.

Captain Barnabas pursues Captain No Beard and his crew and all things seem to be nothing but trouble until a shift in the wind and a certain crew member saves the day.

Who is this crew member on the Flying Dragon and what does she do to save the day?
Well, read the story and find out, you might be surprised!
***********
In my mind, Carole P. Roman has done it again with this picture book!

The story flows along in a fun manner but teaches a bit about strangers but more importantly that anyone no matter what their age can be helpful in some way.

The pictures are bright and animated to help the reader imagine along with the crew. The book itself has much more dialog this time which can allow the older child to read on his or her own.

This book is a win-win and deserves the 5 stars it is getting from me.

STRANGERS ON THE HIGH SEAS is the fourth book in the CAPTAIN NO BEARD series. The first book, CAPTAIL NO BEARD not only won the Kirkus Reviews' Best of 2012, but was also given The Pinnacle Award of 2013 from Children's Indy Best.

STRANGERS ON THE HIGH SEAS returns with much of what everyone loved from the original: a fun, imaginative story that teaches important life lessons. In this story, No Beard is responsible for watching baby Cayla. His admonition to her being "don't be a nuisance", which is similar to his mantra from early books, "being a Captain is hard work".

As the pages are turned, the Captain and his crew discover they are being tracked by the bot Shark Bait, helmed by Captain Barnabas the scurvy dog and his First Mate Crab cakes with her pointy claw. As with author Carole P. Roman's style of twists, the previously thought nuisance turns out to be the heroed crew member.

The pictures remain fun, warm, and inviting and fit quite well with the story. Roman's deft use of word play carries the story to the last punctuating diaper pun. My favorite is still the original Captain No Beard: An Imaginary Tale of a Pirate's Life, but fans of the original will be sure to enjoy this new pirate-themed tale.

*I normally do not review children books, but thought I would give it a try : )

This is one of two books I received that is part of the "Captain No Beard Stories". I really loved the artwork in this book. Everything was colorful and full of pirate whimsy. There were a few moments within the pages where I thought that the author, Roman, was trying to get a little "after school special" and that didn't work for me. With some of the vocabulary in this book, it may be more suited for older toddlers as well. The main thing that threw me at the end was that I didn't catch on from the start that it was a brother and cousin watching his little sister playing make-believe.

However, my two little guys loved this book and pointed out all of the animals on both of the pirate ships. It was very entertaining and I would recommend this to anyone with older toddlers and up.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

I was given a copy of this book by the author; I was not paid to give this review.
