The table of contents does not match the actual pages for each chapter. (For example, in the table of contents, Chapter 7 should begin on page 83. In actuality, the chapter begins on page 122.) I had a hard time finding some of the chapters. There is no index, so using this book for research would be very difficult. I dislike lowering my usual 5 rating for Ms. Croft's books, but this glaring mistake on the publisher's part makes for difficult reference.

I am hoping, however, that when I read the book completely, the content will be up to Ms. Croft's usual excellent writing. I have never been disappointed with any of her writings. I have always found her writing to be very forthright and accurate.

As always, Christina Croft does a great job turning her research into a readable historical piece. The average reader will enjoy the account of this every day family that just happened to be royal. amazing how this normal family ended up populating the royal houses of Europe! I think much solid parenting advice can be taken from this work. Good sense is not dated. What thePrince consort and his Queen offered was just solid, every day parenting advice.

Please put this book on your "Must Read" list for 2014! Even if you are new to the world of royalty or the Victorian Era, this book gives more than enough background and character information to keep you grounded throughout the book. Drawing on various sources and the main character's own words, it paints a beautiful picture of Queen Victoria's and Prince Albert's family. It really goes a long way in presenting a fair portrait of Albert and Victoria as parents, without completely side stepping their short-comings or the difficult times that the family experienced.

There seems to be a lot of recent criticism of Queen Victoria and Albert as parents. This is probably to be expected as we try to view the 1800s through a set of modern eyes and that leaves us with questioning the vast differences between our time and the Victorian Era. This book helped me to reconcile those differences and allowed me the opportunity to view Victoria and Albert, as parents, in a far more balanced way than ever before.

Ms. Croft has the ability to present full and realistic portrayals of all the main characters involved, which will give you a deeper and fuller understanding of who they were, and what part they played in their family. There is little in the way of sensational information here, but that might be the exact point. In re-examining the usual stories and anecdotes in a new light, we are able to see the family fully illuminated. Each character comes to life in their own way, and finds their own voice in this beautiful book. Without giving anything away, it is simply a very good read! I had a hard time putting it down, even into the wee hours of the morning!

Please note that this book covers the time up to Prince Albert's death.

It is always refreshing when a book presents a completely different angle on what is taken as historical fact - and this book does just that by presenting Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as caring and devoted parents. Without being sentimental or slushy, the author supports her arguments with witness statements and first-hand accounts of those who were actually present at the time, and consequently presents a fairer and probably more accurate portrayal of Victoria and Albert's family life than is usually presented today. Particularly interesting is the way in which the book covers different aspects of the children's upbringing and the support which they and their parents gave to horticulture, art, music, theater etc. etc. all of which make for a most enjoyable, informative and quite uplifting read. Interesting, too, was the chapter about Victoria and Albert's tolerant approach to religion. The description of the Public School system at the time as well as the mention of more recent research into the best means of educating children, provide food for thought and do seem to point towards the fact that Victoria and Albert were well ahead of their time! A very entertaining and interesting book!

Book seller did as described but the book is very poorly researched. I wouldn't buy anything else this woman writes.
