This is a very credible, well written, and insightful book concerning some very important issues.

Pre-release and other reports seem to focus on the hacking of Ms Attkisson's computers, which some believe to be an outrageous act (perhaps by the federal government) and others don't believe at all. After the Snowden revelations, the Clapper lies, and the Justice Department's treatment of Rosen, Risen and AP, I would find it harder to believe that her computers weren't spied upon, rather than that they were. After reading the book, I find the entire computer hacking issue to be a side issue that is being nitpicked by critics in an effort to discredit the author.

The real story here is the credible documentation by a seasoned insider of the control exerted by the Obama administration over CBS News. Nowhere is this demonstrated more clearly than in Ms Attkissen's account of the extent to which CBS covered up the truth concerning a pivotal moment in the 2012 Presidential election (debate 2). After the debate, pundits everywhere were arguing about whether or not Obama called the Benghazi attacks terrorism in his Rose Garden speech on 9/12/12. While discussions continued and the media largely sided with Obama, CBS "sat on" video evidence (shot on the same day), proving that he did not call or consider the Benghazi attacks terrorism. (At least that is what Obama said in the interview with Kroft). Furthermore, after reading the book, one might conclude that the entire debate moment was orchestrated. Ms Attkissen poses the key question: "- How did the White House know CBS wouldn't use the part of the 60 Minutes Obama interview that disproved the president's debate claim?

An interesting book, that describes Attkisson's illicit surveillance and why someone, almost certainly a highly placed government official, would be willing to break the law, and hack her electronics without a warrant.

This part of the story bookends the central part of the book, which tells of her extensive investigative journalism, and the troubles that she has endured because of it. I had not realized that Attkinson was responsible for so many of the stories that has the left up in arms: Bengazi, Fast and Furious, The Green Energy Debacles, Obamacare, etc. Ignored by these folks is the fact that she is an equal opportunity investigator, having earlier gone after the Bush Admin. and Corporate fraud.

This should be a wake up call, for all of us who believed that government domestic spying ended with Nixon, and that the promises of "The Most Transparent Administration in History" has become a sham.
Every person who cares about our freedom of the press needs to consider her story, especially liberals who believe that only Republicans do the kinds of things that have happened to her.

Sadly, it appears that Sharyl Attkisson is one of the last of a dying breed, the "Investigative Journalist." Unlike just about everyone else in major network media, she understands the critical importance of an independent press in fostering freedom in a republic. In this fast paced and interesting book, she describes in heartbreaking detail how the media has become a lap dog for corporate and governmental interests, while abandoning its responsibility to ask hard questions and hold our leaders to account. She is one of the few who understand that it is the job of the media, "to remind politicians and government officials as to who they work for." The Left loves to trumpet the idea that, "There's Nothing to See Here," when anyone talks about Fast and Furious or Benghazi, but the fact remains that there is plenty of filth that needs to be exposed and cleaned up. If the press continues to abandon its duty and if low information voters continue to cast the deciding ballots, the next few years are going to be bloody.

This is a very enjoyable read and very enlightening on the workings of both the media and government, I often choose books because I think that I "should" be informed on a subject, but this book is well-written and quite an insight into investigative reporting. Looking at the books reviewed by other Amazon reviewers who gave it one star, I doubt that they have read the book. Their ratings appear to be based on ideological lines. However, this book is really not political. It is about a stand-up reporter trying to do what the media is suppose to do, and the response of the network bosses and her colleagues. Really quite fascinating.

I am just finishing up with the book now, but there are several things that are particularly interesting for me.

The behavior of newsroom management isn't a surprise, but a disappointment. We villify original investigative reporting until enough outlets pick of the story then it becomes "accepted wisdom". It make me wish for a real, courageous press.

Second, the relationship of society's BIGGIES - Big Media, Big Corps, Big Government, Big Hollywood. She shows quite clearly what it looks like - propaganda - and why its done over and over again. There is so much video in the vaults at networks that run counter the accepted Zeitgeist that would radically change our thinking as a country.

Finally, we should never trust Big Government for anything. Period. The alternative market based solutions for nearly everything would liberate our economy and create so much genuine, long-lasting wealth the future for our children's children would be much better than anything this cabal could create.

Great book. Great read. Thank you Sharyl.
