I was lucky enough to recieve a copy of The Dawg Pound Dynasty from the author, a personal friend. I loved it.

But let me give you some background.

I don't read alternative histories. I'm just not a general fan of them.

I'm not a Browns fan. I do follow the Cavs because I enjoy watching the greatest current NBA player active today. But I could care less about the Browns.

So, why did I enjoy Pelligrino's novel? What was it about The Dawg Pound Dynasty that made it such a fascinating and pertinent novel?

Two aspects come to mind immediately - 1) general football intelligence, 2) the importance of "luck."

Pelligrino gets it. He understands how the machine works. He understands the nuances within the machine. But ultimately most importantly, he understands the "luck" aspects of the game. How a single piece can destroy the team. How a single player can win the day. And how it's not always who you expect.

I won't go into details because you should simply read the novel if it intrigues you, and I'm not going to spoil it in any way.

But I want to emphasize, this isn't pure fantasy. It is a fiction, but it's a fiction whose basis is reality. The players are real, and their draft positions, their play, their personal decisions, they all ring with a note of existential truth. That these things didn't happen is fact, but that they could have is truth, a kind of truth that makes the novel impossible to set down.

If you're a Browns fan, if you're an NFL fan, if you're a football fan, or even if you're just a fan of professional sports, do yourself a favor, pick up Pelligrino's novel.

A true page turner, this book gets you hooked and you can't put it down. Or maybe that's just because I'm a browns fan and it's nice to step into an alternate reality where we are not laughing stocks but a true powerhouse. The only thing I will say is that the book had a lot of typos. An alarming amount actually. Still read the whole thing and loved every second of it though.

I thought that this could be an interesting read when I saw it pop up. I love football books and am always on the lookout for one with a fresh take and this book certainly disappoint I haven't read ANYTHING this funny in years!! A Cleveland Browns dynasty created by Wayne Fontes and Gary Moeller?? How do you come up with something like that? Letting Tom Brady go for BRETT FAVRE? What is with you Brown fans? If you're going to reinvent history why don't you go back to 1983 so the Browns can trade for John Elway? Or why don't you go back to 1995 stop Modell from moving your team and firing the best coach in N f l history Imagine Bill Belichick coaching Ray Lewis and Jonathan Ogden that actually could have happened. The best part of the book was Moeller and Ricky Williams hunting for crabs on the beach. HILARIOUS!!!!! This book was worth every penny and I recommend it to anyone w :O needs a goo d laugh
