This is an awesome book! The maps are beautiful, and they show how explorers at the time saw and understood the world. The text is even better: it is informed, informative, well-written, logically organized, and thoroughly enjoyable. Not dry or dusty in any way. I haven't yet read this book from beginning to end, but I've read various sections, as the mood struck me, and I've learned something every time. Highly recommended!

I found this really interesting in terms of the geopolitics of the day.

I also found this really interesting in terms of what the explorers thought.

It is amazing how much of the exploration was centered around greed and how much was privately financed.
