Great for young people and good for adults too

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase

Making a trip to China to see the Great Wall and other treasures (or any destination for that matter) is less fulfilling without knowing some history of the land and it's people. This little book will provide a broader understanding of China. It's not an in-depth "put you to sleep" type of book. It's an easy going read and you can look up more details on google should you wish to know more.

I purchased this book for a Chinese child as it provides in one quick look many of the inventions on earth that came from China. In Europe/USA we celebrate the invention of types of writing, government, moral philosophy, foods, and gadgets as our own invention. With the exception of gun powder we don't often know about the huge number of "things" we take for granted that actually came from China... often many centuries prior to their discovery or invention in Europe. So this is a fun read. The style, pictures, and print are oriented toward those under 12 years, but I think the adult giving this book will enjoy it first and may mutter "well all be darned".
