I build models of WW2 and Cold War Era U.S. Navy Destroyers. This book has to be the most comprhensive and helpful book that I have found that deals with a specific class of Destroyers. It is fun to read and use for reference for the ships that I build. I am currently working on a 1/350 model of the Gearing and this book has been so helpful in showing the details of this ship. I highly recommend this book for any naval historian and enthusiast. The color plates and pictures of destroyers on the ocean are great!

If the Title ot this view can be summed-up in a few words, those Words will suffice. Should you consider yourself a bit of a detail-junkie, History buff, or like decent pictures, this book will probably satisfy your needs. This was a time in History, where we could follow the process of Naval Evolution; its a book to save. WmRD

After having been searching documentation in order to better known the Gearing FRAMI, this is the best not only for that one, but for the whole Gearing-Sumner class destroyers, from the beginning to the end, full description, drawings cutaways and b/w photos and drawings general and in detail, both the ships and the plethora of armament used on them. Finally some good photos on modelling master pieces and a few color profile and photos on actual ships.
Highly recommendable.

Having served on a Gearing in WW2 I found this book nicely details the equipment of this class of destroyers. It also lists the ultimate fate of the class- mine sold to Taiwan for parts. Overall it brought back many memories.

This was a fathers day gift for my dad who served on the USS Allen Sumner. I think it was his favorite fathers day gift ever. It was the perfect gift. It has lots of pictures are information. It even managed to have things my dad did not know about the Sumner class ships, which I did not think was possible.

This was a gift for my dad who served on the Gearing class USS Noa DD-841. His response on opening was "How do you even find something like this". My response AMAZON. It's a great book.

BTW, USS Noa DD-841 recovered John Glenn after he splashed down from the first U.S. orbital mission. His footprints on the deck were circled with paint for the rest of the Noa's life. She was sold to Spain in 1978, stricken in 1991, and sadly scrapped that same year.

My Weapons office once said "Four burnin' and two churnin'" about a tin can. This is a well-written and well-researched book on US Navy Sumner-Gearing-Class Destroyers. "Haze grey and underway!" Everything you ever needed to know about these cans, from their development to their deployment. Lots of information, pictures and drawings. Good stories, too! I am very satisfied with this purchase! "Anchors aweigh!"
