This collection of essays were poignant. As a young girl during the Thomas Confirmation and Hill Hearing, it was hard to grasp the courage of Ms. Hill speaking Truth to Power. Reading essays from others who were the same age and older really brought to light how different work life was then versus now. There is still so much to overcome in the workplace for those of a member of a historically disenfranchised group, but Ms. Hill opened dialogue that continues today, and I thank her for her bravery! I always believed Anita Hill.

Title caught my attention. These are five words I've spoken many, many times in conversation and discussion with friends. An amazing woman, much unfairly and despicably maligned. I've never forgiven Mr. Biden for his involvement and intractability in the court proceedings. The Conservative Machine---Racist Precursors of the TeaBaggers----got their way. Then they declared Corporations are 'people'. Now they want impeachment. It all started with the abuse and degradation they subjected this woman to. We'll be living with the embarrassment of her treatment for many, many more years.

This book is great even for those who are not familiar with the case or history surrounding Anita Hill. It is an empowering novel that leaves the reader with a sense of community and belonging. With speeches and excerpts from women and men that span the generations you are provided with a look at what we have gained, how we have seen it affect our youth, and what we have to work to improve and to maintain. Every section is beautifully written and the book itself is put together perfectly so that the two of these attributes combined leave wanting to keep on reading once you start.

The best part of this book is, however, that it is not only interesting but insightful and offers a powerful lesson in standing up for what you believe is right. I honestly could not stop reading, every person had something new to share whether it was a personal story, poetry, a scene from a play, or research they had done. Every section was something new, yet one discernible similarity can be seen in them all and it is a feeling of gratitude towards Anita Hill and the reality that all that we have gained is because of the bravery she was able to inspire in others.
