Lighthearted and fun, this book manages to be highly informative without bogging down.

I grew up wanting to be a "true" woodsman, but every book on tracking and animal scat identification I have ever seen reads like a college textbook -- certainly no fun for a kid to read. This one is different.

Written as the story of a family visiting Yellowstone Park, "Who Pooped?" hits all the bases. The kids learn how to identify the scat of the major critters in the park -- and, for example, why wolf scat has hair in it. They also learn how to identify the tracks of those same animals, with helpful details, like how to tell the difference between the tracks of elk and moose. The author has a great knack for making it all sound so simple and easy, while giving readers a great deal of information.

The most helpful stuff is the "background" on the animals. When you learn that mountain lions can keep their claws retracted, it is suddenly much easier to tell the difference between a wolf track and a mountain lion track. There are little tidbits all through the book, called "Straight Poop," with enough expert information to please parents who want a trip to be educational. And the story of the traveling family is cute and easygoing.

I must admit to an irresistible temptation to ask the author for a companion volume, one on identifying the tire tracks of monster SUVs in the parking lots of Yellowstone. Of course it should be titled "Who Parked in the Poop?"

Forget the toilet paper! This little book is great! Kids sure get a kick outta it and they actually learn something. Even outdoor wanna-be's might learn how NOT to say, "Here kitty, kitty", to a wolverine.

I bought this for my 4 year old grandson, along with a package of plastic wildlife animals. He loves the book and has his parents read it to him all the time. It's interesting (not just about poop) and includes a page with drawings of various animals along with track marks and poop in order to identify them.

Such a fun book!!
If you find yourself traveling through Red Lodge as you head to the park (North East entrance) you have to take a few minutes to stop by Gary Robson's lovely little bookstore, Red Lodge Books &Tea, located on the right side of the quaint main street. You are likely to find him at the counter- he is funny and polite and happy to tell you about his ever expanding series (now 19 books) of "Who Pooped in the Park?"books- a spindle of which is prominently displayed near the counter. :) he's happy to sign your book- just ask!

This book truly will help my grandchildren identify scat and tracks. I would give this book a full five stars except it begins with a little boy who is frightened of grizzly bears. My 6-year-old granddaughter doesn't need any suggestion of being afraid of grizzlies. Her older brothers (ages 12 and 13) will adore the in-depth discussion of poop! We'll need to set aside several hours for tracking while we're at Yellowstone.

Back in 2005 my mom and step-dad got the book Who Pooped in the Park? by Gary D. Robson for my kids.

It’s the story of a family on a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The son is afraid he’ll be eaten by a grizzly bear, but his parents explain how there aren’t any grizzly bears left in Colorado. Then the parents take the kids on a hike to teach them how to find out which animals have been where by identifying all kinds of marks, especially scat (POOP!!!).

I bought this book for my niece about the area we live in. She loves it and I bought one for my nephew too. It is a good book to learn about what animals are around and how to know what they are based on the droppings! Plus, kids love books about poop!ha
