This book, and I might presume the series, are OK for a little extra info for the home user who hasn't attempted certain repairs before, so need a general guide. But I've too often found that the detail I'd like isn't in here. For example, to replace certain things like the heater control door, it tells me that removing the dash should be done by a repair shop. Come on, give me a few tips, and we'd get thru it. It's nice to have the photos, but the book covers too long a period, so that a photo showing a picture for one era doesn't show what it really is for an earlier or later year.

Over the years, I have owned dozens of Haynes books and still have 5 for my and my children's other vehicles.

The 1993-2004 Jeep manual is by FAR the cheesiest Haynes manual I have ever had. It is almost useless; had I bought it directly from Haynes or an autoparts store, I would have returned it immediately with this writeup included.

In order to sell more books to a wider 'year' of audiences, Haynes merely changed the years on the book's cover and did very little else. Most of the sections are applicable to 1993 thru 1998 but totally drop us off the cliff for the 1999 thru 2004 data.

And yes, much did change in those years. I believe a full vehicle tear down was done once upon a time but not recently.

I am going to have to pay the piper twice to get a decent reference manual. Haynes, really failed us with this book. SAVE YOUR MONEY, go Chiltons or Bentley or online on this one.

This manual is like so many other Haynes Repair Manuals. That being most are useless. It states that it covers ALL models of Jeep Grand Cherokees from 1993 thru 2004, however, it simply does not! It does not cover the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Sports Utility model. My vehicle has both the automatic transmission with the usual 1, 2, Drive, N, & Reverse -- along with the manual 4 Wheel Low & High settings and there is NO mention what-so-ever of them in this manual. Also NOTHING about the entertainment system is included either such as the 10 disc Remote Controlled CD player. Heated front seats, sun roof and many, many other features of this Jeep model. Would not recommend ANY Haynes Repair Manual to anyone.

Bought this a year ago and have finally decided to leave a review to save other people from wasting their time and money on this crap. Over the last 12 months I've had to repair a few things on my Jeep, each time I've given this book the benefit of the doubt and opened it up to assist me and each time I find myself closing it in anger and heading to an online forum for assistance instead. It is poorly written, covers very little on 2001 model jeeps, the indexing is a total waste of time and has so many areas that are just not covered, in my honest opinion you're better off joining a forum, save your money for parts instead.

If you have ever repaired your own vehicle, you probably used one of these manuals to assist you. Pretty much a standard for all home preventative maintenance and repairs. This one was for my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Only had it a few months, already used it multiple times. I keep it in the truck.

For me this repair is just not that helpful. I am an amateur DIY mechanic. Often I find that I know what needs to be done (removed, installed, etc) but I will get stuck and go look to this book for help. Inevitably it will simply describe the same task I am doing like it will just say "remove nut from bolt". I know that nut needs to be removed but how do get the hose and cap which sits on top of that same bolt off so I can access the thing? The internet and google are much more useful than this book in my opinion.

Typical Haynes repair manual- take vehicle, tells you how to disassemble it, repair it, reassemble it. It would be helpfull if they gave a better list of speciality tools the vehicle needs when working on it.

I do wish Haynes would man up and make a book how to overhaul automatic transmissions and standards- along with a parts supply house.

Disappointed in the book,specifically the AC repair instructions:The only thing this book does not say directly is,that you may be better off having the repair done by a dealership. My openion is that in that regard this book is a waste of money.
