This is a series of well researched books regarding the early indian wars in Texas. It is a testament to the sort of warfare that was waged and why when two totally dissimilar cultures meet. I highly recommend this book as a way to determine how and why the Texas Rangers eventually became one of the most, if not the most, feared law enforcement agencies in the world.

I contacted Texas Ranger archives who recommended this book. It comes in three volumes and I bought all three, one at a time to find the right one. I wanted Texas Ranger info about my GGG-Father Joel W. Robison. I knew from my G-Father of Grandpa Robison's activities a San Jacinto but nothing from him about him being a Texas Ranger. In it were several references, one in which Sam Houston appointed Robison Lieutenant in the Rangers, where he served in several fights with Indians.

Books seem very well researched, with a lot of notes and indexed by people's names and events.

Well documented as a historical resource. For personal reading however, it lacks the "wow" factor that the TX Ranger history is so full of, and the details of their engagement that make their reputation unique as law enforcement officers.

Stephen Moore has hammered a great deal of facts into a book; it is tedious reading and very dry; his literary style is about as uninteresting as one person can make it; lists are endless; some facts are inaccuate (Ft. Parker is 25 miles from the Camino Real Crossing on the Navasota River, not 90 as stated). If you want dry details, some of dubious merit, this book is for you

My family arrived in Texas in 1833 this helps define elements in their lives. I will give insighe to anyone trying to reconstruct a family history reaching back to early Texas.
