This book is simply outstanding.

Using piles of dry humor, unique analogies, and a healthy sprinkling of personal examples, Rachel has crafted a book of short, easy-to-read, stand alone chapters... just right for busy mothers. Yet each chapter, however short or enjoyable to read, is absolutely packed with penetrating insights into the deepest heart-issues of a committed Christian wife/mother/homemaker.

There are many good books on the market that give helpful tips for how to better manage one's home or children or schedule. I have been helped by many such books. But this book tackles something much more unique and challenging. With humility and wisdom, it sheds refreshing light on rarely-discussed potential pitfalls in the thought life and emotional life of a sincere Christian mother and offers Scripture-saturated, hard-wrought PRINCIPLES for better defining and growing through those challenges. In so doing, this book offers hope for change not just at a circumstantial level, but at a far deeper and more impacting level.

As a mother of four young kids, I ache to do my job well. My good husband gave me this book for Christmas and I read it cover-to-cover in almost one sitting. Now I am inching back through the book, working to move the material from my brain to my heart to the details of my days. It is so clear that Rachel has sought God in the trenches of her busy home and has gained great insight along the way. Now she is mentoring me in my own home. I really can not overstate how helpful the book is being in my life.

This book would be an outstanding gift for any sincere Christian mother. I can not recommend it highly enough.

To God be the Glory.

Having 6 children (6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1) and # 7 due in December, I can very much relate to Rachel and her books... I have so appreciated this book... I bought it because I was so encouraged by her first book, "Loving the Little Years"... That one was SO real life... funny, made you want to cry and laugh at the same time... you could feel that she UNDERSTOOD the day in and day out joys and struggles of raising little ones...and many of them at one time. I read through that book in a few sittings... It has small chapters, easy to read, and very encouraging...

Even though this book definitely takes on a little different twist than her first book, I appreciate it almost more... It is a little "deeper"...if I may put it that way. It takes a little deeper dive into the heart, motive, and desire of motherhood. I have chosen to read through it slowly...wanting to digest it as I go... So, I have not totally finished it yet :-)...

However, I'm not sure I would be able to appreciate it half as much, if I had not read her first book... simply because, I KNOW that she has experienced what she is talking about... When she talks about letting our life be a sacrifice, I know that she knows what that is like... having read her wonderful, practical examples in the first book.

My suggestion: get both books, and read "Loving the Little Years" first... then read this one... So much truth! So challenging!

The first book also could be geared more to mothers with numerous little ones...or even families with lots of children... However, this book is excellent to ANY mother...of any age...

I am so thankful for Rachel's encouragement to mothers around the world... Thank you, Rachel!

I loved the author's first book- so much that I have read it and re-read it, and bought a copy to loan to friends! It challenged me in many ways and left me feeling very inspired. I still list it among my fave books of all time. I was so excited to read this one, but it fell short of the first for me. It took me a while to figure out why, as it has many of the same aspects of the first book- short chapters, clear writing, honesty, but I think it didn't connect with me as much because there were less personal stories in this one. There were plenty of examples, but less storytelling which made the book feel more like a lecture/sermon than the first. Loving the little years was more personal and felt like a conversation over coffee with a friend because she told so many little stories that helped you to understand and reinforce the points she was making. Also, I purchased the kindle version and there were many typos/errors. I would definitely recommend to anyone considering this book to read loving the little years first, and to purchase the paper version over the kindle. There are many gems of wisdom in these books for mothers, so purchase the two together.

I am so challenged by the words & encouraged in the daily struggles through motherhood & having small children. I am so thankful & grateful to have something that is short, sweet & gonna give you a kick in the pants when you need it. The chapters are short enough that it would be perfect for Bible study, or like I am doing, reading and discussing via email with a dear friend in the midst of this stage of life with me.

Highly recommend this book & her other title, Loving the Little Years. Fantastic read. Keep & re-read. Give as a blessing to someone else who may need the encouragement or just be able to enjoy the perspective.

Can't think of enough good things to say.
