I liked the way the book explained how to use the different punctuations in a whimsical way.
I was in the middle of writing a book, when I came across this on Amazon. It helped tremendously. It clarified the correct way to use punctuation. It can be very intimidating trying to figure out the proper usage of grammar. When it comes to commas, I go wild. I learned not to use them that often and when I do, to use them correctly.

I like to think of The Pocket Idiot's Guide to Grammar and Punctuation as being my "mini cheat sheet book." There are many rules of the written English language that one just can't always remember. I don't need to worry about remembering everything about grammar and punctuation as long as I have this little book handy. The basics are discussed as in the differences between a noun, verb, and pronoun. The complicated aspects of writing, such as when one should use a comma, semicolon, or colon can be found within this little book too. It's a handy resource to have because we never know what all we will end up writing in our lifetimes. I purchased this little book for merely a few pennies from a seller on Amazon. The seller managed to get the book to me, in excellent used condition, just six days after I purchased it.

You're only an idiot if you don't have one of these. I highly recommend it. It has everything you need at your fingertips for correct grammar and punctuation and Jay explains the parts of speech quite well. It helps me with my students.

Please do not expect to learn anything worthwhile from a grammar handbook written by an author who cannot identify his own usage errors! Although the book's index lists pages that address misplaced modifiers, the title itself contains this very mistake: there is no such thing as a pocket idiot. The word pocket is intended to describe the book, not its audience; therefore, the corrected title would read "The Idiot's Pocket Guide to Grammar and Punctuation." At first I thought that the title of this book was intended as a joke, but scanning the sample pages provided on Amazon, I found numerous other grammatical errors such as the plural pronoun "they" being used to replace the singular subject "everyone." I found five grammatical errors in just the opening section, but I won't bother to list them all. Buy a better grammar handbook, and then see if you can identify the author's mistakes yourself. I am stunned that this author acquired a PhD in English.
