Once again, Ms Briggeman has told the stories of Burlesque in the words of the people who were there. As one of those who 'was there' and one of the featured dancers in her book, it has always irritated me to see books, being sold, that were written by people who not only have `no clue' about real Burlesque ... they attempt to tell the reader what the `motivation' or `the true story' was for the people who worked in Burlesque.

Many of us went into Burlesque for a very common reason - to earn a living. Especially women. In an era when females were severely limited in career choices, Burlesque was one of the few areas where a woman could earn a very good to a fantastic salary, PLUS obtain steady work.

I recommend this book to anyone who would like to know the true stories of those of us who were there. This book contains stories that encompass the entire Burlesque era. Ms. Briggeman tells the good, the bad, and (most importantly) the humorous things that we did or that happened to us during our careers.

The photos alone are worth the price of this book. Many are exclusive and have never been published anywhere else, as are the stories. This book makes a wonderful gift. I've already purchased two copies of this book (one for myself and another as a Christmas present). Jane Briggeman's book about Burlesque is the one and only true account of how it really was, with wonderful photos never before seen, and stories never before heard, told by the performers themselves. She captured the spirit of bygone days perfectly and her ability to transport us into the burlesque era and live it till the last page is truly amazing. Thank you Jane Briggeman for this valuable collection and history of Burlesque and another special thanks for the opportunity for me to re-live that special time in my life. I reccommend this as a must have book for every collector and burlesque buff.

Love the book. I remember a lot of burlesque in the 30's.
I was a burlesque brat.
I traveled the first 7 years of my life with my sisters and mother on all the wheels. And I'm delighted
to have contributed a little to the book. My name is in
